Attaching Fender Extender to Carbon Fibre mudguard?
Any one done it?
How? I don't really want to drill it, I have never drilled carbon fibre & don't know if it will crack. But can you glue to it without affecting the Carbon fibre and will it peel away at the weave? |
Re: Attaching Fender Extender to Carbon Fibre mudguard
Used clear silcon sealant on mine, sticks anything to everything pretty much.
It won't affect the carbon fibre either Take the mudguard off, stick the feder extender on, clamp it in place, remove excess silcon with a wet finger to get a perfect finish, remove clamps once silcon has set. Just be careful how and what you clamp it with, you could just use masking tape |

I was considering silicon but didn't know how well it would hold up over time with the vibrations & crud.
I used glass fibre resin on the SV front mudguard, but it made it very stiff. |

No problems here, once its stuck its stuck. Ever tried removing old silcon?
Better still, its got flex in it. Did the first with Araldite, sticks well, but messy and hard to get any residue off Silicon gives a lovely clean finish, so long as you wipe any big lumps off |

Araldite is a chew on!
Done mine last weekend took 30 mins to do it and clamp properly Moegrips are the best thing to hold it with while it cures |
Re: Attaching Fender Extender to Carbon Fibre mudguard
drilling carbon is fine, so very easy to drill through, never cracked when i did it

Re: Attaching Fender Extender to Carbon Fibre mudguard
I used the belt and braces approach, some sealant to stop road dirt and water getting between the extender and mudguard, and as my curvy is yellow, four yellow plastic number plate bolts to attach it with some superglue on the bolt threads so they would never come undone and they wouldn't crack or deform the guard.
