Ebay recommendation
 

Just fitted this to the SV in place of the tatty old one which was a bit wonky. I ordered it, titanium, bespoke size, thread length, knurled barrel, on Tuesday evening and it arrived today, exactly as per my spec! Got it from this guy on Ebay Twelve quid posted 1st class!

Yeh, I know, bit of bling, but what the hell. To be honest, what with the lower footpegs, new boots and my wonky knee, I was having a lot of trouble changing down. This new spangly bit allows the gear lever to be a lot lower 'cos it's 10mm longer than stock.

And anyway, MY bike only does 70mph!

If you take it off there, you can reattach it at a different angle to raise or lower the gear lever.
Be careful, however you do it with ground clearance if you lower it too much.

I need some twelve pound Ti in my life. sounds cheap, how much did it weigh?

Has anyone fitted a shorter lever? How much toe effort with less leverage does it take (apparent, I understand the physics ;) )? I always ride with my toes on the pegs and find the lever a large reach away, especially left handers, I like to avoisd the toe-tarmac interface.

Tim, all the length of the rod determines is where you can position the gear peg. The SV oem is too short to allow the peg to be lowered enough for me.
A shorter rod would make the position higher, with no change to the effort needed. The amount of effort required would be determined by the distance between where the rod fixes onto the pedal, just below the pivot point. I can't see any way to change that.

Oh, I wasn't so sad that I weighed it, but I would guess at about, oooh, say 42 grammes? :rolleyes:

Apologies, I hadn't opened the link, I thought you had a whoile Ti gear lever, a steal at 12 GBP, I'll give the bit of rod a miss for now, but useful if fitting rearsets etc.

Would`ve been cheaper to get a titanium knee fitted on the NHS.. would`ve cost you nothing :p

That's nice, that. Not all that many people do one-offs in titanium... Course, mine is aluminium so probably about half the weight, but still, it's nice.

One of the items in the Massive Lever Sale is a slightly shortened gear lever ;) But if you want to start from an unbroken one it's dead easy, just cut the end off to the length you want, drill and tap the lever for M8, put the bolt through the original rubber and bolt and threadlock into the lever, job done. I never noticed a big difference leverage wise, changing bear isn't a job for strength anyway, but I did occasionally find I got my foot in the wrong place for it on upshifts. Still, it worked fine.

If you want to do it Posh, the Woodcraft levers fit a standard SV rearset I think.

What size is the standard curvey change rod?

I seem to have misplaced mine due to an unforseen event :silent:
