Bullet Cam Mounts
Morning all - its been a while!
So, I just bought myself a bullet cam kit with DVR and all the gubbins ready for my track day next Sunday. It comes with 2 rubber suction cups which can stick on the side of a fairing or other smooth surface. I was just wondering though about the fake ram air vent things under the headlights of a pionty model. Id like to mount the camera under there if possible but am a bit unsure if the suckers will work well enough. Has anyone mounted a camera under there and if so, how? Ive seen a few different types of mounts and thought about securing one in with nuts and bolts or similar but if someone has a better, cleaner way, Im all ears. TIA peeps. |
Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
How can you afford track days with the nipper?
Won the lottery and not telling us Get yer ass down here for my birthday bash (oh and don't forget err indoors) |
Re: Bullet Cam Mounts

No the cheeky little minx hasn't told us. Unfortunately the wife has invited "Guests" in other words free loaders who intend to eat my food and drink my beer. For the party Amanda/Steve are staying over at the travel lodge place. |
Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Cheers chief, I'll check out the link.
In the meantime - bullet cam mounting help required people!! |

Anyone....?

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
All I can think of are the suction cups from dogcamsport, other places do the same thing as well.

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Gaffa tape? ;) Sorry, that's not helpful is it? Bet Steve will have some suggestions on sat :p

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Some people use that 3M industrial velcro stuff.

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Ive got a couple of the dogcam suction cups that I will try for now. I did notice this morning though that there is a black plastic "tray" under the headlights that you can see through the headstock. In it are 2 holes in the centre, just begging to be used for bolting a camera in. Might try it at weekend. Not too sure if its too far back though.

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Yea, checked it out yesterday Stu and it does flop about quite a bit. Oh well, I think my best options so far are on the side of the fairing or in the fake air vent under the headlights. I think I would prefer the latter as its a bit less obvious theres a camera there, but still not sure how to mount it in there.

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Side of the rad gives a steady and great view of the suspension working as well as a good forward view.

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
I quite like that idea actually but Im on a fully faired bike, so prob wouldnt get the best view. Just out of interest, how have you mounted that?

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
A bit of metal, 3 holes and rounded off the edges. The camera come with the P-clips that have suckers on the end. I took the suckers off and got 2 random nuts and bolts and put it through the P-clips into the two end holes on the metal. The middle one is for the rad bolt to clamp it against the rad. Simples. :D

Sounds good. Shame I cant use it as I have full fairings in the way. All a bit academic now too as the camera has packed up sending a signal to the recorder after just one long test run. Way to get stung on eBay. |
Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Send the seller a message stating the problem, however if they dont do anything assuming that you paid via paypal and you pay your paypal via your credit card your covered.

Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Yea, I know the drill on eBay. I paid cash though after winning a buy it now auction.
To be fair, the seller has already said I can go back to his house, which is only a few miles away, and check out all the connections with me. I'm pretty certain they are all fine though and its the actual bullet cam that has packed up. We'll see how I get on once I get to his house, hopefully tonight. |
Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Going collecting another cam, mic and cables from the seller tonight. Hes been really good so far to be fair.
Also, tomorrow Im getting a bracket made to hold cam in the fake vent under the headlight. Hopefully it should all be tip-top ready for track day on Sunday. |
Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
Job done - at last! Got new camera and mic from the seller and he's getting the old cam repaired then giving it back to me to use as a spare. Hes getting a wireless kit so has no use for the wired cameras anymore. Result for me.
Got the new cam all fitted last night and mounted it in the fake air vent under the headlights. Very pleased with the job that was done. Got an old pal of mine who has a 3 cam system on his bike to show me how its done and Im well impressed with his work. Looking forward to recording my ride home tonight now as a test ready for the track day on Sunday (weather permitting - stupid rain!) |
Re: Bullet Cam Mounts
I mount my bullet cam in a short length of pipe insulation which i can then cable tie, wedge or otherwise gaffa tape in various locations. It fits almost perfectly into the air scope on my GSXR or my sons RS125. You can add extra layers of insulation if you want to make it a bit fatter.
