We Need More Banter!

C'mon folks, this is never gonna fly unless we get to know each other a little better?

I'm fast and ride a medieval bike made mostly from cable ties and gaffer tape!

What about you lot?

@kellyjo, if you can't make one single weekend, sell the bike to someone who'll use it!

This post brought to you by beer!

%9 yr old, Scottish, ( with accent ) , big ol git, a bit knackered , been living in Suffolk since 1990 , work full time , packed in smoking, dont drink much , been riding a while ( 42 years ) , I can remember some of the 70's :-) , like dance/trance music from late 80's early 90's .
Been to some interesting places, at interesting times and seen interesting things , like british somaliland when they got independance, been shot at by malayan communists, been in ski patrol and mountain rescue , work for local plod as an IT guy .
Talk a load of bolloks too .. :-)
I was/am a single dad since my daughter was 7 , so I understand when some folk cant get time off to ride and how important it is when they can.
Looking forward to meeting you lot .
Hamish ( weel it would be )

You old git! Kids forgive a multitude of sins! A good days riding is good for the soul, so god will add it to the end of your life! A good days biking beats a good days work every time! (Kevin Bloody Wilson) We need codger style riders to keep us 30 somethings from killing ourselves!

Here goes, I'm 37 yrs, live in Norwich although I've been about a little, lived in Fiji for 3 yrs.

I only got my bike licence late 2010, nearly lost it last year after I got the SMT, it's a good job the new driver act rules work on 6 pts... :) I love riding and try to in all weather, only the wife drives the car. I am still trying to convince her to get on the back, if we can ever get the kids looked after for a bit.

I work full time in the IT game too. I'm currently working from home every other week and commuting and stopping over in Birmingham the rest of the time. Next contract will be based in Norwich again if I can help it.

And yes, having some sensible riders around would be a good thing! The EAR gang are good to ride with to be fair, steady paced but not mental.

Bring on the ride outs!

edit: I'm guessing I was a bit late posting :)

Re: We Need More Banter!

Bog off Thunderace, its my bike and im not selling it!!! :p

Ive been riding three and a half years, all year round and have no intention of stopping, but with the way things are its difficult to get time on the bike, but that doesnt mean things will always be this way.

FYI im a single mum with three young kids. The weekends they are with their dad I have to work to keep me off Income Support, the weekends they are with me I am not prepared to get other people looking after them so I can ride for pleasure, my kids need me and I am there for them. Id rather be a good mum with a few miles on the bike than clock up the miles and not be there. If I had a partner and had the kids all the time things would be different, but if i'd stayed in that situation I would never have learnt to ride.

It kills me that the bike is sitting there virtually unridden and the longer I am off it the less confident I will be when I do get time to ride, but it would kill me more to look back and think I didnt give my kids 100%.

Re: We Need More Banter!

100% with you KellyJo ... it's easier for me now ... my lil gurl will be 20 next month . If I was lucky my x would have her for 5 days every second summer , thats 5 days of touring in the Highlands, bike , tent and midges .
Kids first , bikes next :-)

I'm 29 and had my licence since I was 17. My first ride was on a Beamish Suzuki 250 and I was hooked straight away. I couldn't imagine not riding. I've been married six years and luckily enough my missus is a biker too (makes it easier when I want something shiny for the bike!). No plans for kids as we are both too selfish for that kind of thing. We want to explore and ride bikes and you can't fit a child seat to a bike!

Re: We Need More Banter!

Near enough to make rideouts doable, only a short blast up the M11 to Newmarket then not much further to Red Lodge.

That's a big fib :-)
I'm the most easterly org member, in fact any further east I'd have gills.

I have similar childcare issues, as I work week on, week off. When I'm off my wife works. But I can and do get to do ride outs and trackdays on the prettiest silver sv around.

Southwold for pre Christmas fish and chips is on the agenda

Right... still 39 (for a month) had my licence since i was 17.. been on a couple of rideouts with kai. Will try my best to get on a ride out but have an 8 week old boy at home so free time is short at the moment.
Ride the bike every day as i sold my car earlier in the year.

If i count, then i have an sv that sometimes works, live in luton. but also found anywhere between billericay and northampton, and have only fallen off a few times in 6 years. Excluding when i was 3. I did use to live at the 8 ball, but it's shut now and a little too far for a wednesday

Well that's the rub! If I can get you out in the cold, it should be much easier to get you all riding in the warm!:smt040

I remember a few years back Skip, myself riding in February. Real peasouper of a day. Very little visibility. Another time, early spring we had such a side wind, we had our knees down whilst on a straight road.

And several of us met up for a couple of Meat Runs in March - very cold, but dry, with a chance of a prize half way round :)

Even I've been known to turn up to a couple of EAR rides. Met on at least 2 occasions at Red Lodge. I remember getting soaked on the way homw from a chippy run - wasn't Southwold but I can't remember where it was. KJ was there with a couple of others

I think this would be the right area for me in Letchworth Garden City, I am 24 years young, had an sv for a year and a half but sold it this summer to buy a fazer 1000, which i love. I ride in all weathers, which I am now regretting looking at the rain where I work, and the 40 minute ride home :(

one would think that as one gets older that one may get wiser ...bollocox ...an unlined jacket and summer gloves are not the brightest thing to wear in November , the ski socks and long johns under bike trousers works well .. 100 miles later cold hands and cold kidneys .. stoopid old git :-(
