are scorpion exhaust any good

hi are scorpion exhausts any good on the sv i am looking at putting the oval one with a removable baffle on my bike and do you need to get a power commander to fix the fueling after you have fitted it

Mr Toad 03-07-05 01:23 PM

I've got one of these and it's very good. I shall be selling it shortly as my bike has been written off.
If it's a K3+ then you don't need a power commander as the FI system will compensate automatically :D

cheers

M.C. 03-07-05 03:31 PM

i had a scorpion race can on my k1 and never touched the fueling and it ran fine.

viner 03-07-05 04:34 PM

Yep, me too. Had an oval one on my 2000 naked sv650 (now in some other b.....ds hands as it was nicked!!!) and I never had to touch the fuelling. However, although it didn't sound as good with the baffle in I SWEAR that it ran better than without

wheelnut 03-07-05 06:19 PM

I hope so, I managed to find a brand new Titanium oval for a good price. I just need a link pipe :P

AlfBoy 03-07-05 06:29 PM

I have a scorpion can on my K3 and it sounds very nice. I highly recommend it if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Hmmm. Opposite to me. I haven't touched the fuelling and I normally run without the baffle. Had to put it back in for the MOT and it felt strangled and less eager. Might just be in my head but I reckon mine runs sweeter sans baffle.

NitroNorry 03-07-05 06:49 PM

I have a Scorpion Can - and it gets good comments from most people. :D No idea if it does anything for performance - I'm told the Stock Can can be put back on without and engine adjustments.

the scorpion is a great can it really brings out the low burble of the v twin,
and as scoobs said i know it runs better without the baffle as i put it in every morning when i go to work (5 oclock!) to stay friends with the neighbours and then 500yards down the road the allen key comes out and so does the baffle there is a noticable difference to performance,
with the baffle in my k3 feels strangled and without you can feel the engine free up and it really feels like its breathing better!
the sound also makes you ride faster CUZ IT'S GREAT!!!!!

Agree with the above comments. The sound is superb and its definitely better without the baffle. I keep mine in if im going to work as i dont want to wake the neighbours in the morning but if im off on a rideout, i just pop the baffle out and under the seat.

If you're getting one i suggest you get some ear plugs or it'll certainly damage your hearing.

northwind 03-07-05 10:47 PM

i agree with the above, they're good cans. Well made and rackety. I don't really like the sound but that's a matter of taste.

Except for the bit when Mr Toad said that the FI will adjust for the can- SV650 FI runs a set map and has no lambda sensors, it doesn't adjust for anything- too basic. That's one of the more commonly repeated SV myths...

But, still, you generally don't need to remap for a slipon because they don't make a huge difference in fueling by themselves.

#-o

Now I'm in trouble :D

kwak zzr 04-07-05 03:32 PM

a mate tells me (so again just another myth) suzuki fi engines are designed to run a 5% tollerance either way? so it can cope with a race can but when combined with a filter it buggers up the running? the mate in question has a tl1000s.

northwind 04-07-05 06:38 PM

Nah, that's almost right but all it really is, is that you can generally make a certain amount of changes to the air'n'fuel mix without causing any problems. Same with FI or carbs for that matter, or for any other manufacturer.

Now we know who Jonboy's thread was about Mr Toad :)

kwak zzr 04-07-05 06:43 PM

thanks northwind we trust you know what you are talking about!
or you may get a bollock'in from the powers above.
don't worry after reading your threads I TRUST YOU

Then you should liten more to the people I listen to :) (only joking!)

I've been on this site for just a bit over a year, and Sv Rider a bit less, and though I'd messed with my 125 a bit I was a total newcomer to real bikes... But in that short time the two sites have given me the info and the confidence to seriously monkey around with the poor thing, much to my bank manager's irritation! I reckon the only way to get to know your bike is to jump in and get on with it.

He's right you know.

You can get the theory from here, but the practical is the only way to properly learn. Go on. Get grease under your nails.

kwak zzr 04-07-05 07:46 PM

no prob's! but i'll still ask when i'm STUCK

northwind 04-07-05 07:52 PM

Definately... I kept the Orrible Yam going without even a manual and it was a nightmare... this place is an amazing resource for the meddler.

I'm away to shout at the kettle now!!!

northwind 04-07-05 10:34 PM

There is some truth in what you say :)

Xenolith 06-07-05 07:17 PM

I recently bought and fitted a round stainless one.
It looks like it is good quality.
It sounded nice on fitting, went for a run with it and could notice the much fruitier sound.
I got back home and removed the baffle, then started it up.
OMG, now it is LOUD.
Went out for a quick ride which was great.
WOuld recommend it for the price.

2 weeks and counting, called Seastar today, they havn't even sent it yet

a1a 08-07-05 05:17 PM

Whats with the removable baffle and the Scorpion Can? I don't believe I've ever seen any removable baffles on a Scorpian Can over here.
Cheers! :drink:

northwind 11-07-05 07:00 PM

Different noise regulations, I expect... All our cars and bikes have to pass an annual inspection including (in theory) a noise check, as well as being open to trouble from the police while riding. The baffle is dsigned to make the cans road legal and MOT-friendly.
