Why did my bikes battery die??? Spot the idoit

This afternoon i popped down to Looe (from Torpoint, Devon) during my split shift from work, bike started fine, no probs

After 10 mins buying a new pair of sun glasses, i went back to the bike, pressed the starter button and..................nothing.....dead as a doe doe

I knew what was wrong by that point as i fitted a fan to my reg/rec (50x50x10 fits perfectly) yesterday afternoon so i rang the RAC to come and give me a jump start, then i waited.....and waited............and waited (it must of been about 25c today and i was waiting in a car park with no shade)...and waited..........i used £6.45 of credit chasing the RAC to find out what was going on......and waited some more, in fact it was over 4 hours  until they arrived, which considering they told me the second time i spoke to them the wait was 2-3 hours, i was a little annoyed, but the fourth time i spoke to them (at 6.20pm) they said the bloke was 20 mins away.

At 7.40 pm the man arrived and asked what i needed, so i told him i needed a jump start and he had no clue what so ever as to how to jump start a bike from a donor battery  so i showed him

Got back to work at 8pm, 2 hours late and after firstly ringing the RAC at 3.26pm

After work a mate jumped started the bike so i could get home, racing the dark because if i put the lights on, the bike would cut out (but re-bump itself back to life), checked the charging system and the battery was at 10.6v with no difference with the bike running

So guess what the problem was

You did'nt re connect the live feed after fitting the fan, thus no charge to the battery.

Had the terminals reversed on your battery?... though that'd probably make it exlpode.

The rectifier was not plugged back into the harness.

On a seperate note, are you small? Because bump starting an sv on a flat is fairly easy. (unless this can't be done without your reg/rec plugged in)

I couldn't bump start mine when the battery died

I've bumped mine loads of times, Find it fires best when in third and thumbing the starter. First gear just locks the rear, second you have to get it going pretty quick. Just get it going to about 15Mph, Hop on, Flick ignition on, Knock into 3rd, Bounce the suspension while dumping the clutch and thumbing starter ( bouncing puts more pressure on rear tyre so it'll grip) and bang she goes.....That how i do mine anyways :D .

HEY!!!

Im a pretty big guy and i couldnt get mine bump started on a flat battery without a push off a couple of guys!!!
