R1 Battery

Right, tried searching but it appears I can't find it, seems to pick up every post with the word R1 or battery in it.

Was it the R1 or R6 battery thats been recomend as a alternative to fit in the SV if you have to trim your shock to fit, due to its much smaller size.

Lets see if I can get it cheaper on E-bay.

Is it smaller then?

Cranking Current 125Amps 12Volts 11Ah L151mm W70mm H130mm Weight 4.1Kg

mmmh.

Re: R1 Battery

No idea about the size difference. But it does give a wee bit more juice (harder to crank an R1 obviously).

Least you've got somewhere to start now ;)

Re: R1 Battery

Is this actually neccessary? I just put my old battery back in with the fuses / relays on top like before. Battery was raised up on foam blocks to prevent it sitting on the shock's reservoir. Seat goes on no problemo, so what's the issue here?

Err looks bigger then the SV one to me... Just wanted to make sure I had a nice easy fit.

I want it all perfect...

Re: R1 Battery

I run a YTZ7 which is what is used on CBR6rr racekit (its tiny), it seems to cope with the extra compression, but I doubt it will cope with lights etc, however I think there is a 9ah available.
Not cheap mind as yuasa seems to be the only one stocked by the distributers

Re: R1 Battery

I use a 8ah one on my race bike which runs total loss( no i havent fitted the generator yet rob) and tbh it works and is able to crank the bike fine.

I know sarah(SV650racer) had am prblem restarting her bike last year as the bike got compressionlocked and the battery didnt have enough juice to turn it over but for me so far so good.

I know one mintwin rider who used a 3ah battery in his bike and it always started no probs.

Re: R1 Battery

Grinch, do you ever leave yours parked out in the cold and wet overnight? If so, you don't want a titchy battery :) The standard one's barely adequate in winter IMO...

Re: R1 Battery

You can fit a Hayabusa battery, 12ah but same dimensions as a ytx9

Re: R1 Battery

Busas use YT12ABS don't they? That's standard fitment for the curvy SV isn't it  150x87x105. According to Yuasa it's just 9.5ah and 175A CCA.

Perhaps a YTZ10S would be an option... 150x87x93, but it still has an 8.6 ah cap and 190A CCA- not much worse than standard but a bit shorter. If you remove the fuse retainer in the curvy you gain a lot of space- I have a taller than standard battery with the fusebox and CDI on top of it and there's still clearance to the seat.

Re: R1 Battery

Use a YTZ type, the cold cranking current is better than the other types size for size.

Check dimensions on the yuasa site
http://www.yuasabatteries.com/battery_search.asp
pick a battery type, you'll get an application list, click "specification"

Grinch 26-04-07 08:06 AM

Re: R1 Battery

Well the battery is for the other SV, so in the winter its going to be on a 'trickle' charger or out of the bike all together. Will have to give the site a good going over.

Re: R1 Battery

I had a TL batt in mine for a year but they're twice the size but gave better cranking........no help really :D
