Tyre pressures

What tyre pressures would you guy's recommend on an SV with Z6's?

Regards

Re: Tyre presures

I've used 33/36 on Pirelli Diablo stradas (same thing, different badge), but no idea if it's the optimum, I can never be bothered fiddling and assessing, my ride depends so much on me that I think I'm not consistent enough in my riding skills to work out optimum pressures. Low pressure doesn't work great though!

On track I drop then 1-2 psi before the first session.

36/42 in my road attacks?

Re: Tyre presures

You get so much conflicting information about the right tyre pressures. When we fitted the Pilot Road 2's, the guy put 36 front and rear. It just didn't feel right, so I actually e mailed Michelin to ask what pressures THEY recommended. Got an e mail back too.

Dear Lissa,

Thank you for your e-mail and purchasing Michelin Tyres.

We have the following pressure recommendation -

Front at 34psi
Rear at 36 psi

There is NO requirement to increase for load/speed.

Michelin Tyre plc

If you can't find the tyre pressure info on their web site, try e mailing them. Can't hurt!

I run mine on standard pressures. 33 Front and 36 rear. Seems to work OK, I've not any complaints.

I'd start there and then tweak a few PSI here and there till you find something that works for you. Pressures are a personal thing and what I might like you might hate.

in haynes manual it say 33 front and 36 rear dont know if these are for the standard tyres when new, but i use them pressures in bridgestone batlax and it seems fine to me....

Remember to take the pressure when tyres are cold!

Cool guy's. Seems most people stick with 33/36 so that's what I'll do till i'v got time to fiddle properly.

Cheers

Re: Tyre presures

How about start at 33/36, and increase to 36/42 (1 psi at the front, 2psi at the back each time) and see what you like?

Re: Tyre presures

I ran 36/42 on my Z6s too, really didn't like them at the 33/36 level particularly on the front...all washy.

Just swapped to Pilot Road 2s though but I haven't scrubbed them in or had a chance to check what the garage set them to. Was going to make sure they were 36/42 as well but after Lissa's comment with the Michelin 'official' response maybe not. Hmmm......

MeridiaNx 05-05-07 06:32 PM

Re: Tyre presures

Was just doing some reading and found one site which recommended setting the pressures to manufacturer's recommended settings and then going for a ride on a twisty until the tyres are warmed up. At this point, measure them again....

Apparently they should ideally have risen by 10% front/20% rear, any less than that and you should let some air out, any more and some should be added.

What do people think, anyone heard of this method of measuring before? Never come across it myself.

The man at Avon says 36/42. This is what I now run and the bike has never handled so sharply.

I run my tyres at 36/42. I'm sure we've had this discussion loadsa times already.

Wacked the pressures up to 36/42 from the standards and my god what a difference!!!!!!!!!!! the thing all of a sudden handles and doesn't feel like the front's just gonna wash away!! :D :D

Good good, though it's also worth noting that if you had to do any mileage to get there (i.e. a few miles) you will have got a higher reading on the pressures due to the warm tyre. So you won't be quite as high as 36/42 in fact.

Also, it's often said that forecourt readings are notoriously inaccurate. Worth a double check at home from cold if you have a standard foot pump/gauge.

I'm 33/36 but I might try 36/42 to see if it 'feels' any better, but then my riding is different everytime I start the bike so we will see.

Re: Tyre presures

The pressures for the curvy were set 8 years ago, and tyres have moved on a bit since then I reckon.

If the man from Michelin tells me 34/36 are the right pressures for PR2's then I gotta go with them. Why would they give out duff info?

Law 08-05-07 02:29 PM

Re: Tyre presures

Too much pressure and your tyres will wear unevenly and it'll be bumpy as hell cos your tyres don't flex enough.

I've been running 33/36 but I'm going pump them up to 36/42 to check what the handlings like.

Quite! Use the pressure that the tyre manufacturer recommends. Hence I use Avon's recommended pressures.

Re: Tyre presures

i never used to bother with tyre pressures, if they wasnt flat then that was ok:) a few years ago i picked up a tyre pressure gauge and started to keep an eye on them and wow what a diffrence that makes! amazing how much diff a few lbs of pressure makes.

I also have Z6's, I run 36 front 41 rear. I find this gives better feedback on the front.

From the Pirelli site

DIABLO DIABLO
Front Rear
120/60ZR17M/CTL(55W) DIABLO Front - 2.25 BAR 160/60ZR17M/CTL(69W) DIABLO - 2.5 BAR

DIABLO STRADA DIABLO STRADA
Front Rear
120/60ZR17M/CTL (55W) DIABLO STRADA Front - 2.25 BAR 160/60ZR17M/CTL(69W) DIABLO STRADA - 2.5 BAR

That translates as 33/36.
