What's the route?

I'll go but I'll skip that excuse for a road surface at St.Mary's loch

It's in the link mate.....

However, I'm planning on finding time to check it over prior to Sunday, and if it's too nasty I'll make plan B.

Cheers,

When I see that weather forecast I have to admit to being tempted. Maybe I'll just turn up with jeans on, that usually makes be feel vulnerable enough to bimble.

Go for it Col'. I'll be looking to maintain a good, but legal pace on the whole. There's plenty of twists etc on these roads, so if you carry 60 through some of those, you shouldn't get bored - indeed you could give yourself a good scare. Perhaps jeans is taking things a bit far........

OK, I'll be there, so long as there's no sign of a baby!

I can just see this coming though - The first rideout where we have a pact to stick to the speed limits..... and we'll get pulled by the cops for random checks! :D

Re: Controlled Rideout Sunday 2nd September

Well folks,

I went and done the rideout today. No problems to speak of. Q's dad (68) accompanied me on this one and we experienced varying weather & road conditions.

When we left Cumbernauld, it was dulll, miserable and mizzle. The wind was strong on the M73 & M74, but once we got to Uddingston, the roads were already bone dry.

The rain got half way serious a few miles north of Moffat, but the sun had been working wonders in Biggar earlier. Once we descended into Moffat itself, again bome dry and bright. A nice cheap lunch at the Rumblin' tum and we moved on.

Again the weather was fine and the road surface along the A708 (St Marys Loch) was on the whole very good. Any patches of gravel were very limited and easy to spot. They were all off (my) line too:p. The wildlife behaved itself too, with everything staying sat in or by the road just as it was on approach. Nice one.

Our next encounter with the drizzle was at Peebles, but again it cleared quick enough. Easties & Westies will part here after picking up fuel at the BP station at the roundabout.

The run back up to the west was also good for the most part. Westies - you can expect to get back around 4.30. Easties - that depends on your return route & destination.;)

See you all in the morning.

Eh, there's 2 MacDonalds in Hamilton... They're about a mile apart so not hte end of the world if anyone gets confused, but which is it we're actually supposed to be meeting at? Both are in retail parks too. I think it's probably Hamilton Palace?

It's the one nearest to the M74. There is a KFC there as well if memory serves me right

What's the weather like through the west at the mo.

Got new tyres fitted yesterday and only done about 4 miles on them so far so they will be as slippery as errr... something slippy (brain is dead:)).

Here, here!

The man's right you know.... the BBC weather man's changed his mind again and he now agrees on sunny intervals! Besides which you'll have them half scrubbed by the time you get to Hamilton.....

Re: Controlled Rideout Sunday 2nd September

That went well I thought! Wing mirrors aside. Just going to start sorting out the vids, though I think the one of me and Jimmy coming from Innerleithen to Edinburgh might not be for public consumption [-X Great day- thanks a lot for putting it together.

As for the "controlled" element, well... TBH I don't think it worked very well. The second leg was good, but the most fun I had all day was when we dropped off the back of the rideout. Also, leaving aside the pace and the bunched-upness, I think there were still some big drawbacks- if we'd lost someone from the back, we'd be no better off than usual since it was so common to get gapped (well, Tony and Ralph were doing it on purpose!). If you slowed for the person behind, you'd end up losing the person in front and being dependant on the next turning being marked, or on catching up, things like that. And that's the same disadvantage as you get with a completely unmanaged rideout, but with extra hassle.

But then, it was a big group- with a smaller group it would have worked perfectly since the top and tail would be able to see most of the group, we've used this method to cover distance often enough.

REgardless of all that, great rideout, maybe I should turn up for some more? :smt039

I know how you felt KK - bloddy cage drivers!! I thought the section form bigger to moffat was better but maybe that becuase iwas up front for once. I think Tony was right (no u can't have that in writing)
Good day though - highlights - Jims landing on the roof again, certain people getting lost Rabs - only a hand job quote and my momentous overtake adnd to think you lost would have normally missed that and i would have been celebrating onme own!
