Test rode a Fazer 1000
I just came back from a test ride on a Fazer thou 2007. Obviously very different from my current bike so here goes the detail of how I found it.
Power - found the delivery very smooth! although it has 150bhp it felt very easy to ride and accelerate out of corners without the fear of the bike going wild because of the power. On the other hand I did find it too smooth and would very much like to hear of any cheap options to unleash the beast a bit more. Handling & Riding position - very comfy and the handlebar is very street fighter like. A lot easier to throw into turns than my SV650 and will forgive you if you make a mistake on a turn. Brakes - AWESOME! the bike I test rode had ABS on it and the brakes felt like throwing an anchor behind you!! I would love to have this bike, 1 thing to consider though is the original screen being too short. Not sure how it would look with the touring screen on it though. Also depreciation is another point to raise! OTR price is £7300 and yet you can find privately bikes for less than £5500 with less than 3k miles |

I love it how 20 people saw my thread but nobody bothered to make a comment :S

Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
The fazer looks really good, I nearly bought an 07 600 S2 but then I saw (and heard) an sv. I put my deposit down and with the money I saved bought mods to make it ride like a bit like a fazer.

I had the FZ1 Fazer for 2 days while the TDM was in for its 50k km maintenace. And I must agree, it is a great bike, although I prefer the looks of the naked FZ1. The bike handles perfectly, neutral and light. The brakes are indeed more than adequate and predictable and controllable. And the power... well the power is just endless. I would not call the acceleration as smooth as you describe while opening the throttle on the Motorway at 120kph the rest of the traffic suddenly looked like it was standing still. Actually the power is just way beyond what I would ever use on the road. The FZ went to 200kph without even blinking, in 4th gear with still 4500rpm to spare... If you want more acceleration there is plenty of margin to change to a bigger rear sprocket. Would I ever buy it? guess not, it has too many Cylinders :-D Will I accept if the dealer lets me play with it some more? H#ll yes!!! 8) |
Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
You going to try a Tuono or Super Duke - maybe worth a comparison if you like big nakeds also priced similar. Retains the twin characteristics.

Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
try the street triple rode on on tuesday, my god is it good.
waiting on a phone back on a fazer thou, apparently they are all sold out atm |
Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
I've only ridden the FZ-1 naked one. I was quite impressed to be honest. Fueling niggles look like they were sorted from the 06 model (some say that was not as bad as peeps made out anyway). It went well, stopped very well and handled a treat. If in a short test ride 150 ponies is not enough (plenty for me on a naked) I think you need the B-King, that should do it.

Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
you went from an SV to a fazer without being overwhelmed by the power?! Did you rev it properly?!! I found a cbr600rr enlightening enough!

Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
don''t get me wrong there is plenty of power and enough power for my liking - what I found was that the delivery was waaaaaayyyyyy too smooth for what I expected and I would have liked it to be a bit naughtier.
Reason why I have not checked the speed triple or the truono is wind cover....although the fazer looks and handles like a streetfighter you can still get a touring screen for it - nothing to put on the speed triple or the trueno tbh |

Oh and dont forget its not a twin so you need to use slighly higher revs... Its naughty when you get used to teh engine and how to ride it :).... very naughy....:D did you demo a new out the box bike with only a few miles on it? as the loosing up with a few 1000 miles on :D |
Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
You'll noo belevie it, but the STREET triple (mentioned earlier) felt no different in terms of wind protection to my fully faired sv.
Wasn't at all windy under the helmet, just a reassuring push on chest, i was surprised, 600+ just get out there and try it, its free! lol you could definatley do some motorway milage, perish the thought! Ive pretty much thought of nothing else since i rode it, and i rode the supposedly better tiger, but it wasnt for me (and thats a head 2 head contender to the Fazer1000) Edit- Oh did i mention its a mere £5.3k OTR thats a bargain........ mmm .... bargain! |

Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
the bike i test rode was a demo with 400miles on the clock - the triple is out of the question as if I wanted a naked no fairing I would stick with my SV - nothing wrong with it :)

Re: Test rode a Fazer 1000
I once had a short ride on a Carbed Fazer 1000. The riding position was wierd after the SV, but i found that the suspension was smooth as silk and smoothed out the surfaces that the SV pogos around on. It was tipping in much easier and faster than the SV very confidence inspiring.
I didn't rev the bike over 8k but it was really smooth and i was amazed at how it just gathered speed!! Really want to get on one now and get it up to the top of the revs after what Beenz said. I am seriously thinking about chopping my SV in for a fazer thou in the spring, because I commute 80% of the time. I think the fazer would be more comfortable and effortless and have the performance and handling to keep me happy at the weekends. I hated the SV when i took it on the motorway to london in the rain and i think the fazer would be miles better for going off on long trips to see my mates. |
