Tachometer died, where is the sensor?
 

Just restored my '99 to stock carb set up, from the desnorkeled/jetted/shimmed. Anyway, slapped it all together and the tach is not functioning. Everything else running fine. I assume I disconnected a wire or bumped a sensor connection while taking the carbs out, anyone have any input? Was working t!ts up 'til just now.:smt089 Cheers -D#

Oh yeah, also put in new plugs at the same time, the dual sparky type. Don't tell me I mashed the front plug connector? They related?

There's no sensor as such - the tach is driven from the ignition system, check you've not disturbed any of the wiring.
At the tach there are three connections - hot and cold, and one out of the ignition system.

As far as I can tell the tach will use the positive and negative feed of the clocks along with a 3rd line from the first ignition coil to determine the firing rate. I'm currently trying to re-wire a stock tacho back into the race loom on my bike.

On a side note does anybody have experience of managing to cut down the standard clocks? The interior has both the tacho and speedo and idiot lighgts on a single large circuit board. Ideally I'd like to drop all but the tacho.
