Dust AND piston seals?
 

Hi all, quick query I want clarified quick:

I rang suzuki spares direct to ask about dust seals for the front calipers, they said they only do a kit which is a dust seal and a piston seal at about £26 per caliper; this sounds far far overpriced to me.

I know what the dust seals are, but where does the piston seal come into play?

Piston seal is the fluid seal that sits behind the dust seal. The thicker of the 2 seals it provides the piston / caliper / fluid barrier.

They lead a much easier life than the dust seals, provided the caliper is looked after at all.

Cheers jambo, i'll run along to suzuki spares who do it for the same price later on

then on saturday, I get my front brakes reknewed :cheers: although then i cant be lazy with my hill starts.

Has anybody ever had trouble with leaky piston seals?

I just greased all my front brakes up and i just cleaned up and rubber greased the seals.... a fella here at work seems to think new seals is the only way.

They didn't look damaged in any way... just wondering if anybody has known them to leak after being dislodged.

Were the pistons cleaned with scrotchbrite before you put them back in?

i used some very fine wet and dry.

Sounds like you need a new seal then, try wemoto.

ahh, sorry for the confusion... i don't have a leak! I was wondering how common leaky pistons are as i did not replace the seals, i just regreased them.

Somebody here seems to think once removed, they will leak at some point. when it comes to brakes... well, i don't really want them leaking!

I have removed pistons and cleaned them up before placing them back into the old seals with out a problem, I do not recommend that you keep doing it though.
