Advise on setting up std shock
I was just wondering if there is a 'rule of thumb' method which applied to setting up the standard rear shock preload for different styles of riding? I know very little on the subject and am 13 1/2 stone currently set on the 3rd from hardest setting. I dont really know if this is right or not?
Could anyone shed a little light for both me and any other fairly new riders as to the effects of adjusting it and what it should be? Many advanced thanks. |
Re: Advise on setting up std shock
On the curvy anyway there are 7 settings, 3rd from top is fine most of the time, 2nd is better for track/pillion but is harsh on the road solo. It's a blunt instrument but one way is to adjust it so you feel bumps at both ends i.e. one end isn't massivley harder or softer than the other.

Re: Advise on setting up std shock
The only adjustment you can make is pre-load. This simply adjust how far up, or down the total travel of the shock the bike is for a given load. If the shock is topping out more than bottoming out back it off a bit, if it's bottoming out more than topping out add a bit more;)
