Right the Raptor went for it's MOT yesterday and failed on it's rear brake again :roll::roll:

so apart from it being the worst rear brake I've ever used on a bike (not very effective and a rubbish design making it a pig to bleed properly) it failed on this

"Brake pedal has inadequate reserve travel"

What the hell is that meant to mean????

i would guess it means that the brake pedal is moving to its maximum travel to work. i.e. moving too far.

Did you manage to have a go at the trick Matt sent you for bleeding it?

Raptors are notoriously sh!te on the back brake....good system just Cagiva fooked it up when they hung it the way they did.

Dunno what to suggest really :-(

The stroke/travel of the brake lever must be near its maximum----------is there an adjusting rod or screw to the rear brake cylinder which will shorten the movement on the pedal------------leaving more travel in the pedal to allow for brake pad wear.

Best I can suggest as I have no idea of the rear brake set up on a Raptor

I'd go back to the MOT place and ask them to explain exactly what they mean.

What makes it so hard to bleed?

You have to do it like this, as normal way just do't work!

You have to bleed it the opposite way or something, rather than air going to nipple, yu have to make it go back up to the cylinder.
The bleed nipples at the top, and theres a whole load of brake line in a wiggle too.
In all the brake calipers etc are ok, Brembo I think, well the front ones are, but Cagiva were a bit thick when they put it on the bike:smt108

Indeed they do, infact the Raptor has got a mille m/c on it at the mo cos the original seized up and never worked properly again after that. The caliper itself is fine it's just the rest of the set up. On the plus side I should be able to get a new rear disc for £53 which isn't too bad considering the last one cost me £80 :rolleyes:
