Steering feel after chain replacement
Does anyone here ever notice that motorcycles hand differently after a chain replacement? My chain was a mess and adjusted out pretty far, not much adjustment left.
Now that i have a new chain and sprocket installed it feels like it turns alot easier. Is this normal, or even related? Even if i go in a straight line and just wobble the steering from left to right, it moves more freely. I had to replace the front wheel bearings a month or so ago, so i'll be jacking it up to ensure these haven't lunched themselves again. They failed really badly last time - totally destroyed. |
Re: Steering feel after chain replacement
Reason i ask is that i think this may be responsible by changing the wheel base of the bike.

Re: Steering feel after chain replacement
My first thoughts are that your rear wheel alignment was out and when the new chain was fitted the alignment was then set correctly.
If the wheel alignment was bad enough it would affect cornering. Did you notice if it was easier to turn one way or the other? |
Re: Steering feel after chain replacement
yes i've noticed that the feel changes - not surprising as the geometry of the bike becomes slightly different. Must be slightly easier to wheelie too ;)

Re: Steering feel after chain replacement
The alignment was spot on using the method where you measure the length of the bolt that the adjuster nut sits on.
Will double check the wheel bearings again. I rather like the feel of it to be honest, just having a little trouble building confidence back up with the bike to 100%, since the engine blew up on me. Cheers |
