Advice from (male) cyclists needed.....
As a recently born-again cyclist I need a bit of advice from the blokes on here.
To put it succinctly, what's the best way to prevent the...erm....well...err..*ahem* chafing in the "seating area"? Not that I'm suffering at the moment, you understand. Do I need a specific type pants/undercracks/growlers/skidders* or would the issue be avoided with proper cycling shorts? Do I need specific undies even with cycling shorts? TIA *delete according to taste |
Re: Advice from (male) cyclists needed.....
A "friend" tells me you can buy padded underwear that is far more discreet and definitely less anorak than cycling shorts....

Re: Advice from (male) cyclists needed.....
It's all about the seat in my experience and boxers which are "fitted" so to speak! :)
Movement = chaffing! ;) |
Re: Advice from (male) cyclists needed.....
Get some cycling shorts, and wear a pair of baggy 'cargo' shorts over the top if you feel a bit ghey wearing just the cycling shorts.

Re: Advice from (male) cyclists needed.....
buy a specialised body geometry seat along with padded cycling shorts - £20-£30 quid. Don't buy the 'super thin' looking saddles as they will not prevent soreness. you need a saddle with padding
I have cycled long distances on a regular basis and find that THE SEAT is more important than the shorts. Angle the seat so it is parallel to the top frame. It's a case of going for short rides and then building up to longer distances. I have managed 150miles of in the saddle without any real soreness, my knees just ached from the clip in pedals. not bad after 150miles in one day!! |

+1 I use cycling shorts and have no problems. When racing I generally do about 300+ miles a week and dont suffer at all. You will find that you will get used to riding again. The other thing could be that your saddle is too wide for you. Most people think that a wider saddle is comfier but only for women. |

When I go running I often wear cycling shorts to avoid the same problem:D
