My Honda CR250 project :-)

I'm finally getting to take a look at my CR250 project after a couple of years of having it sat in the back of the garage.

Are there any CR experts out there that I might be able to bounce questions off along the way?

Is there an equivalent to alpha-sports online parts diagram for these bikes anywhere? (Found one:thumright: ) Good sources of spares etc?

I 'think' its a 1989 CR250.

the more I look the more problems I find :-(

This thing is a deathtrap as it stands, I was stripping the rear end from it last night. The wheel bearings are totally knackered, no real drama there. Getting the rear axle out took about 30 mins, it was stuck fast with all the old grease gone hard. Eventually released it, seems to be fine with no wear along its length although the axle nut is knackered and will need replacing.

So, got the rear wheel off and removed the brakes. Nothing too bad, the brake piston even moved when I pressed the lever! Only problem here is a stuck rusty bleed valve. Will have to give that some time one evening and remove it. Obviously needs replacement piston seals and fluid etc. Havent decided if I'll be replacing the rubber hoses yet.

The main worry was the suspension linkages under the swing arm, it has a similar arrangement to the SV but the dogbones are replaced by a U shaped bracket that effectively does the same thing. The big problem here though is that one of the linkage arms (think dogbones) has been snapped clean in two and bodged with a strip of alluminium plate bolted to its side! Piccies on the way later today.

Pah, amateur ;)

If it's gonna take a while, you have to give it a name such as mine - Snail.

I suggest, project 'tortoise' ;)
