I have a cunning plan ... *cackle*
I ride a naked pointy and I would like more headlight power!
I had considered a full re-jig of the lighting system - i.e. fit a pair of twin headlamps in place of the single ... *BUT* Then I had a cunning plan, inspired by a mod to a naked Bandit 600 I saw on another forum. The guy had attached two clamps to the tops of the forks (just under the headlamp), and had fitted a pair of small headlamps onto the clamps, each one taking a standard H4 bulb. He'd then fitted a switch to the handlebars to switch on the extra headlights as required. Result: 3x the headlamp power at the flick of a switch, without having to do anything at all to the existing headlamp! Clever Banditman ... I would love to do this to my SV. Any suggestions about how I should go about it, in terms of fitting the electrical components? I am not too clued up on motorbike electricals, although I do understand the principle of how electricity works! (that's a good start, n'est pas?!). |

I thought HIDs weren't road legal? Can you stick a normal H4 in a HID lamp? And if so, could I just stick the HID kit on in addition to the OEM headlamp? Sorry if I am being thick, just I don't know a lot about these lights! In particular, I don't know about the legality of HID kits ... I've heard some people say they're legal, some say they're not ... I'm confused! |

some hids arent legal...

I think the web site you'll need to look at is something like
www.his-4-u.co.uk could be wrong. As far as I know you can get a HID H4 bulb, so not much messing around. Plenty of people have done this, try a search of the forum. |

I've got a set up that goes onto my K5 consisting of two Hella lights i bought from a car accessory shop. I've taken a seperate fused live from the battery to a relay I've put behind the existing headlights, then then fed the Hellas from the relay. I then spliced a wire into the "high beam" feed to the headlights and used this to trip the relay. That way the Hellas only come on with high beam.

It depends on the wattage. On the road the most powerful allowed are 55w (I think) so if they are more than that (and some of the searchlights I've seen on Landrovers look as if they should be!) you will need to disable them for use on the road, and technically fit covers over them as well. (Like rally cars do).
