How to remove the front wheel without the bike falling over thread
 

Anyone got any tips without buying a front stand? Ive got a rear stand, but not a front one and I need to get the front wheel off so I can get the tyre changed.

Car jack & a piece of plywood under the engine, with the rear stand in position.

Just make sure it's secure

When I did my fork seals, we

1. Put the bike on a rear paddock stand
2. Stacked up some bricks to rest underneath the engine ( watch the exhaust when you do this and put some wood between the actual engine and the bricks, and be bl**dy careful )
3. The we used a decent good strong piece of rope and looped it through the yokes and strung the rope through the rafters in my dads garage and then pulled it up off the ground that way. If you're going to do this, make sure the rafters will take the weight of the bike first.

That gave us enough room to get the front wheel out and also take the forks out to.

I have to say its not ideal, and if you can borrow a front paddock stand from somebody locally that would be probably better, but it did work...

Or better still buy an ABBA stand, makes everything less fraught and less likely to fall over.

If you have an ABBA stand you can just lift the engine up by whatever means which tips the weight rearwards, as it pivots around the swingarm pivot

I don't like using rear stand. You have only 2 points of contact.

Put car jack under engine, jack bike over on its side, weight is held across 3 points (sidestand, rear wheel, engine) and it is very solid.

Make sure you do tie the bike to the rafters otherwise it could fall over and dent the tank causing £130 of damage. Not that that happened to me [-(

If you have crash bungs I tied the rope to them and put it over the rafters. The next time I wanted to jack the front up, I though it'll be fine! :-(

unfortunatly I dont have a garage so it will be done outside so I dont have any rafters to suport the weight

Use a rear padock stand, weight the rear seat, trolley jack under the engine with a piece of wood for protection. If you leaving the bike for any length of time, put your axle back through and an axle stand under it. When I came back to mine the trolly jack had lowered off !!!
