Smoking oil cooler.

Ooops, got home about 10 min ago and parking the bike up noticed smoke coming from the oil cooler area.
On closer inspection one of the hoses, the one on the right as you sit on the bike, seems to be covered in oil. I am going to take the belly pan off and have a closer look when it has cooled down but just wondered if this had been raised before.
Fingers crossed it's a quick fix as I am supposed to be going camping this weekend.

Not much to go on there. Probably a lose oil pipe connector?

Unlikely on a bike the age of yours, but carefully check the oil cooler itself. Where the hexagonal sections meet the body of the cooler I've seen a couple with hairline fractures.

If you find it's the unions that are leaking, don't just nip them up as the threads are relatively weak, loosen first so as to get an idea of the torque they were previously at. The unions use soft aluminium banjo washers so there is a durable seal at low tightening torques, don't use anything else.
When undoing or refitting the banjos, firmly counter-hold the hexagonal section on the cooler witha suitable spanner - the torque must not be applied to the body of the cooler - it's easily damaged.

Good afternoon all.

I've seen some SV's where the oil pipe has rusted through under a short section of PVC sleeving which is around the metal section of the oil pipe.
New pipe time I'm afraid!

Cheers.
