Which headlight wires curvy sv650s
I have a faired 01 curvy sv650 and i am replacing the lights amongst other things. I have noticed the stock lights were driven by 2 sets of 3 colour coded wires on the detachable wire loom.
i have interpreted them as follows from here Yellow White Black w/White tracer My question is why is one set equipped with thicker wires than the other? Does one supply more power? If so I would be interested as i could do with the extra power. It is currently hooked up to the thinner ones because i wired it before i noticed and my light is a bit dull. I wondered if anyone just knew outright as I have tried to use the multimeter to test the current but I cant seem to get a reading as I don't know how to measure amps with a multimeter. |
Re: Which headlight wires curvy sv650s
yellow and white, one is dip one is main.... black/wh is earth.
I would guess with the lamps being 60/55s the thicker wires would be for main beam. Worth checking you don't have bad contact anywhere. I would not try measure amps with multimeter for big stuff (headlight works out to be 5 amps approx), it is hard to get a good contact and thus reliable reading. |
Re: Which headlight wires curvy sv650s
Yellow = Main
White = Dip Black/White = Earth Both go through 15A fuse so should be capable of drawing same power/current down each line. hth |
Re: Which headlight wires curvy sv650s
I figured the main and dip had that working with the normal switches, the point i was making is that there is one thin white, thin yellow AND thin black/white and one thick white, thick yellow and thick black/white. That confused me... any ideas?

Re: Which headlight wires curvy sv650s
The thick wires probably supply the power for both lights from the fusebox and the thinner gauge supply the second light from the first ?
So the thick wires supply the power for 2 headlights, the thinner wires just for 1. |
