Any simple front end swaps for a 1999 SV650SY ?
Got myself a 1999 SV650SY and I think the front suspension is garbage. It may be that it needs an overhaul, or it may be like this from stock, I really dont know. I just know that compared to my other bike, a ZX6R, the front suspension is soooooo soft it is ridiculous. It makes it feel difficult to ride fast as it is so wallowy (if thats even a word) that it just doesnt give you any confidence.
The other thing that has made me ask this is that I have also just bought some new front brake pads and tried to fit them tonight but when I have removed the old pads from the left caliper I have noticed one of the pistons is sticking, and the other one looks like the selas needed replacing. So before I do something to sort this I thought it may be a good idea to see if there is a front end swap you can do fairly easily. |

you need that conversion bearing, then just find a complete GSXR SRAD front end and it bolts right in. The clipons for the GSXR are very low and may foul the fairing, so find some from a ducati SS or a TL1000S (not R) which are closer to the stock position. You can use either 600 or 750 parts interchangeably depending if you want to pay extra for USD. You will need a honeywell Gt101DC hall effect sensor and 4 magnets to make the speedo work. |

GSXR750W (92-95) is a remove and install change, maybe need some work on the ignition key, but anything important, bearings and clip-ons fits ok

I would say SRAD swap, or if the cash doesn't strech that far, 2nd hand rear shock and new front internals and refresh the brakes, but that works out at about 300- 400
The other route is to what Barwel has done and put a RSV mille front end on it is a damn sight more expensive as bearings need to be machined to suit http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=151525 |

I would not use those forks though TBH, they are pretty poorly set up. |

lock stops on 750 did not match, but is easy and simple put two M6 allen bolts on the down yoke to do it, i'm installing this front end now, you must put new lock stops and taped bearings on the SV neck, and maybe some work on the ignition key(nothing important), any more, yo mustn't buy especial bearings and keep the steering lock
But maybe the srad yokes be an interesting option, but you must buy the zoran bearing and it's 40€+shipping PD sorry for my english, i'm from spain |
