Clunking noise - chain?
It's a VStrom not an SV650 but I think bikes are similar in respect to this fault.
Bike was a bit clunky sounding pulling away at various points of journey home. Thought chain hasn't been cleaned for a while so maybe a link is sticking and needs a wash. Before starting turned wheel and actually see rear sprocket moving as chain comes on and the clunk is the sprocket moving. The centre rubber piece has come out...I can see ball bearings. The sprocket itself is not seated inside rear wheel - which I think it should. Garage tomorrow but just wondered what orgers thought it maybe and scare me with ballpark costs? |
Re: Any clues at to whats wrong?
Cush rubbers either worn or non exsistant...and if you can see ball bearings I would hazard a guess that the wheel bearing is gone too. If the above is correct do not ride the bike.

Re: Any clues at to whats wrong?
oem rear bearings are about £10 each, plus labour, assuming the sprocket does not need replaced.
Did u manage to fix the topbox lock. |
Re: Any clues at to whats wrong?
Quote:
There are 3 bearings in rear wheel assy, 2 in wheel, 1 in sprocket carrier. |
Re: Any clues at to whats wrong?
Yep - Top box fixed a nut had fallen off the back of the lock (as you suspected).
Nicked nut of sidebox for now until I can get another one. Thanks for sorting. |
Re: Any clues at to whats wrong?
As I rode it home from work (26 miles motorway) - I assume the 2 miles to the garage will be fine.

Re: Clunking noise - chain?
All fixed - it was the 1 in sprocket carrier.
Happy biker again - thanks for the advice. |
