oil leak clutch?
Hi all
well the curvy sv wont start, see other post, think the fuel has water or something in it. put it on a padock stand to sort it out. left it for a couple of days went out there this morning and a puddle of oil was on the floor looks like its from the bottom of the clutch case/cover. its a 99 sv650 curvy. is this going to be a compleate pain the rear or is it a simple job. guess ill change the oil and filters while im at it thanks peeps |
Re: oil leak clutch?
probably just be the gasket-wipe the engine and sprinkle talc around the seal area-you'll then be able to see where leaks coming from.

good idear husky ill give it a go.
is it a pig to change? |
Re: oil leak clutch?
Plastic covers warp from age and temperature. You can replace cover or surface back sealing side flat. Replacing o-ring will not fix it if cover is warped.

Re: oil leak clutch?
this will either cost me pennies or pounds then.
i think its the engine cover. is this plastic? |
Re: oil leak clutch?
The circular clutch cover is plastic on the curvy.

Re: oil leak clutch?
Ah right, that one's metal. Hopefully you just need a new gasket. I'd whip it off and check the cover carefully for any damage. If it looks OK put it back with a new gasket - some might recommend using gasket sealant.
Be careful you don't overtighten the bolts when refitting - they don't need much. |
Re: oil leak clutch?
With the bike on the side stand, remove the clutch cover. On the '99 models its seperate, so chould come off easy. Check that the gasket is in good condition and as said, the covers can warp so clean it up and put it on a proper flat surface like a kitchen worktop with a torch under it and see if there is any light escaping when pushed down. You may get a little light leakage but look for large gaps. If it looks ok,then put the cover back on making sure that the gasket is in there propery, then tighten up opposite bolts as you go. Dont over tighten the bolts, i think its something like 5ft/lb or something equally as light.

Re: oil leak clutch?
I had clutch cover leak on my 99 and used this stuff from halfrauds http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165691 and it cured it no problem :)
