Brakes juddering following complete service?
I recently had the brakes off my K5 GSXR 750 so gave them a complete service.
All went well and they're in very good nick but tonight on my first ride since doing them I was getting quite severe judder when coming to a stop from about 15mph. I've read THIS recent thread all the way through and can't see how any of the suggestions could apply to me. The only thing I can think of from the other thread is that I possibly didn't torque the steering stem nut properly as I also had the top yoke off to fit raised clip ons but I can't see me forgetting that. Also I didn't put any more copper slip on the back of the pads before I refitted them as there was already a bit on them. Any suggestions? |
Re: Brakes juddering following complete service?! Wtf?
Tell a lie, I fitted braided lines too as I needed a longer one.

Re: Brakes juddering following complete service?! Wtf?
One of the reasons I got rid of my 600rr was complete lack of confidence in the front brakes. I never could confirm what it was.
Have you changed the pads? |
Re: Brakes juddering following complete service?! Wtf?
Well the conclusion in that thread is that the rivets that hold the discs were stuck and cleaning them helped.
So give your rivets a good cleaning (the spring loaded circles that allow your brake discs to float on the disc mounts). If it happened all of a sudden, thats likely to be what it is... unless you happened to lean on/drop, bend one whist fitting or removing the discs. A good dose of brake cleaner should sort it out, concentrated on the rivets. C |
Re: Brakes juddering following complete service?! Wtf?
I didn't remove the discs and I can't see how they would suddenly stick. I will check them however.
Having read countless threads on Gixxerjunkies it appears to be a problem with several K4/K5 600s and 750s although I can't find any that it seems to have started after being worked on. Curiouser and curiouser. |
