SV indicator conversion

Hi all , I have just bought a 2009 sv650 which has had an indicator conversion. so the indicators are now in the headlights. since picking it up have noticed the indicators are flashing a lot quicker that excepted. Has the conversion been done wrong or is it just due to the bulbs being used? if anyone has any info , would be much appreciated :p Damo

Try searching for 'flasher unit'

if they are leds and an aftermarket flasher has not been fitted then fast flash. however iirc 120 flashes per min is allowed for mot. I'm sure someone will be along to correct me soon.

Checked them today there defiantly not LED's , also if you put the hazards on all indicators flash at the corrcet speed.

If they have used standard sidelight type bulbs like cars use in the side repeater then they are only 5 watts, normal indicator bulbs are over 20 (23 for a bike?) so there could be your problem, a LED flasher relay will sort it out and means if you ever decide to use LED rear indicators then you can just plug them in and away you go (no resistors required).

Please also note that due tio the proximity of your headlights, they will be next to impossible to see, and I think (without taking a ruler to my SV right now) they will be too close together, making them illegal.

I considered this mod, but then realised I liked things like being able to walk and breathing.

I looked at it a few years ago and I agree with SK. 5W is just too dim. Fitting brighter ones might melt the rubber mounts, and I don't think you can get anything brighter that fits directly. LEDs would probably be ok but they weren't around much back then.

Very dangerous mod IMHO. I seriously doubt that anyone could distinguish the flashing LEDs or low power bulbs next to the bright headlights especially at night. I considered at some point an indicator mod but the safety aspect really put me off.

You can buy an aftermarket relay on the bay that's a direct replacement for the OEM unit under your pillion seat if required for LED's. There's a UK supplier (you don't need to get it from Germany) and it's about £20 IIRC...

I did the same conversion to my bike and it sorted the disco effect out a treat.

You do have to choose powerful bulbs so they are seen above your headlight during daylight hours, but I also kept side repeaters... It might be worth looking into this if yours have been removed.
