12,000 mile service - what needs doing?
 

Guys, i have no service history with my bike, and have owned it for three or four years, in that time its had a minor service, but had no reciept.

What needs doing in terms of service now? Its a 53 plate and has done 12k miles.

Second question, is there a kit you can buy with service parts cheap? and is it easy enough to do yourself?

Hi Andy, if it were me I would give the bike a good going over.
i.e. oil & filter change, air filter change, coolant change, brake fluid change, spark plug change, chain clean & grease + adjust as necessary.
Oil all linkages etc
All of these items are fairly easy to do and could save you a tidy sum.
When the air filter is out check throttle plates free of muck
Remove brake pads front & back & inspect for wear, check pistons moving ok.
Check all nuts & bolts for tightness.
Last but not least check tyres for condition & pressure
There are service kits on the bay but check for quality, get a genuine oil filter if poss. Should you need brake pads get a reputable make. regards Keith h

Thanks keith appreicated. Ive seen the HI-FLO kits on ebay, with plugs, air and oil filters.

They any good? If so will pick one up and give it a go?!

Hi Andy, thanks for reply. No doubt thse HI- FLO kits are ok so no harm in giving them a go, most members on here would go for NGK plugs. cheers Keith h
