Performance filter do anything?
I have a curvy with a beowulf exhaust, everything else is standard e.g carb jets. Will a filter do much or will it mess it up more if i don't rejet aswell

Re: Performance filter do anything?
depends on which "performance" filter you mean, for example K&N do a direct replacement for the standard one, no performance gain, but cleanable; so you never need to buy another filter again, just having a slipon can, you don't need to change anything else, but BMC make 3 different air filters for the Curvy, one a road replacement, another higher performance one and the race RS version, the last two would require other changes to work correctly (example you fit an raceRS with you current setup and it won't rev past 6k or so).
So really your question doesn't have enough information to make any answer complete. Cheers Mark. |
Re: Performance filter do anything?
Generally you are better off using the OEM filter for best filtering and flow rate unless you are racing or really want a cleanable type.

Re: Performance filter do anything?
I'd have to disagree, economy is a major fator for me, doing 8-10 services a year means I clean
my K&N twice a year, at roughly twice the cost of OEM, it paid for itself in a very short tim |

Surley thats not 8-10 on the same bike, if so how many miles do you do? AmigaNut |
Re: Performance filter do anything?
shared between a couple of bikes, but normally around 40k a year, you tend to find the most economic way of doing things.

Re: Performance filter do anything?
Sure, as I said if you really want a cleanable filter - get one. I do about 4K a year so the OEM filter lasts around 3 years. Since they filter better than K&N, they are the best solution for me.
But, back to the original post +1, "So really your question doesn't have enough information to make any answer complete" this is absolutely true! |
Re: Performance filter do anything?
i don'tdomany miles so the standard one will probably work out cheapest for me

Re: Performance filter do anything?
I recently put a K&N air filter in my 1st gen SV650, motor is stock apart from Yoshimura silencer.
It messed up the carburation, too weak. popping and failure to rev on start up till a bit warm then pulls cleanly, sounds good, but drives like it is starving of fuel, though things improve as the engine warms. My stock filter is absolutely filthy, ( you can see down the plastic tube ) & with it in, bike feels like it is running rich ,but the top end feels flat. The K&N filter has no tube down the middle which must make air flow much greater one would have thought. Certainly no good putting it in without a rejet on my SV |
