If you have a virus infection, simply installing an anti virus program over the top wont usually fix/detect the issue. I would recommend removing the HDD and installing it in a cadie and using a separate computer to run a scan. Alternativly you could install and run a scan in safe mode.

Another usefull tool to run for free is Kaspersky TDS killer which hunts down root kits, a root kit in basic terms is a sophisticated virus which hides "in the background" within the system (http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363)

Right ill have a go at that now thanks,

It's weird because the pc is running so slow and keeps freezing.

When you first turn it on it loads up then freezes, it will reset itself automatically then it works fine, although internet explorer freezes constantly

right i've dont that and it found 6 threats. I clicked delete and it then said to reboot the pc. I've done that and seems to have loaded fine, however it now says on load up no burning drive is found?

Any chance of a screenshot?
Also, I would do a full virus scan in safe mode with a regular virus scan ans the TDS killer only looks at running processes so the infected files may still be present and re infect!

Basically I would run TDS killer in "normal mode", then on reboot go into safe mode and run tds killer followed by a full system scan (ms security essentials is free)
