Slip-On OR Full System?

Hey guys,

OK. As some of you know, I have brought up a few new threads on exhausts. I think I have finally settled on the M4 Exhaust system which are made in Texas, USA. I have also decided that I will go with the aluminum finish over the titanium and carbon. I went against carbon to save a few bucks and the aluminum looks better than titanium on my bike.

M4 Slip-On

M4 Full-System

Now, my father was talking to a fellow at a dealership about exhausts. He said that a slip-on is a waste of money. Now, remember I am a student with a part time job so money is a factor. A slip-on is ~$450.00 online and a full-system is ~$750.00. This includes shipping and taxes to get it to me and all that stuff.

A slip on I think I could install myself. A full-system I think I'd need a dealer to do. I want a new exhaust for the sound and looks. I am not to eager on the performance. But what the dealer told my father is that you would be spending more money of re-jetting and all this other stuff. (Starting to get out of my league...)

With a slip-on, am I going to be effecting the airflow or anything like that? Will there be more expenses that I am unaware of?

Thank you for your input,

Mitch

this is only my opinion..... Full System, why? a slip on requires a hack saw.... the first tool in doing a hack job.... to me, a slip on is only one step above drilling holes. do yourself a favor take advantage of the research & development that makes a full system a real improvement over the stock

i had one of these and i think if im right rictus has one too
but with rictus its an m4 front pipe with a rene or acraprovic can ( i think)

the m4 full system is the way to go albeit the aluminum finish will require constant cleaning you do know this i presume

apparently the m4 gives the best performance out put for a single exhaust and jetting that you can get unless things have changed since last year

they sound very low noted and are built really well ( by this i mean they are constructed too allow for the v twin pulses ) unlike some other manufacturers whose cans crack and falter after time *AHEM* bluflame *AHEM*

you wont be dissapointed ;)

Yeah, it'd be better to wait a little while longer and get the full system. You would need a power comander or equivalent to fully exploit the system, but it is probably a worthwhile investment. (for an additional $300).

However, if you decide to go with the slip-on, you can always buy a previously enjoyed stock system for cheap, and hack that up instead, keeping your own stock exhaust original. This way, when and if you decide to sell, stock is always worth a few more loonies*!! :)

Hey,

But that is the thing I am running into, if I go full system, I have to get a PowerCommanderIII which adds MORE costs. I guess if the full system was only a few hundred more dollars I would go with it... but it seems like these 'secret' costs come up later. Also, I'd have to get someone to install it. I wouldn't tackle the full system. So there's more money to install plus I'd have to get things 'set up'? Technical computer stuff... with PCIII and pipe, etc...? A slip on, I could do.

Actually ya know, it's not that difficult to remove the whole system from an SV (akward for sure, but not difficult). I guess think long term. Ask yourself these questions.....

Am I gonna have the bike for more than a couple years?

Am I after more power, or better sound?

When I peg the throttle, am I wanting more?

Would the extra couple of ponies be worth the cash outlay?

Would I benefit more from a track day with a good instructor?

Of course, if I followed that advise, my bike would be stock.

As for the toonie thing, that whole thing took on a life of it's own. I think like one or two actually came apart. (remember the Audi sticking accelerator scare of the mid eighties? Cripes, I am getting old.... :( )

As was said, I to have a full M4 system, although I'vehad the link pipe modifed to take a Rene titanium can.

see my comments on the system Here.

and on the modification Here..

Cheers Mark.

I'm not very knowledgeable on exhausts, so will stay out of that, but you don't need to spend hundreds on a power commander, any dealer worth their salt will have access to a Yoshimura remapping box.
Once you've done all your mods, go to them and get it remapped and all will be beautiful.
The sv just isn't worth spending hundreds for a PC3 when you get almost as good results from something else.
