Signal Resistors...
I just bought some new LED indicators for the front, and they are flashing way too fast so I figured that I would need to get a pair of resistors to slow them down. But, herein lies the problem... What type of resistors do I get? There are a wide variety of resistors, and I have not a clue which one works best. Anyone out there have any experience with resistors on your 03+ SV650?
Thanks in advance! |
Ah... we already had a big discussion on this, see here:

Thanks!
Thanks a lot! Cheers!

I thought if you contact the company the made them they send out a little kit that fixes the problem for that bike, I know a guy with a bandit 12 that did that with his motrax ones.

Although they will be seeing more that 10W while the current is flowing, they are only on for half the time (approx) so you can get away with it. 25Watt resistors are only a few pence dearer than 10W versions usually, so would be ideal if you can get them. Typical general purpose electronic application resistors are often only 0.25Watt, so are definitely NOT suitable. |
Good to know!
Good to know, that is a huge help! Thanks a lot!

problem being fixed.
Firstly, 10W 10ohm are not suitable for this application as I found out this evening. However, after adding a second resistor to the parallel connection (thus creating a 20W 5ohm resistance), the blinker speed dropped to a perfect rhythm. This would be fine, but for the heat generated by using multiple resistors unsuitable for the application (not to mention that they are a bit bulky). So, a set of 25W 5ohm resistors were ordered this evening, which will surely do the trick.
Lockhart phillips stands by their claim that the signals that they make are suitable for 12V applications and installations, but did not divulge the fact that the LED lights that are swapped in place of the existing traditional 21W bulbs (03+ SV650) use far less power and thus blink at a far advanced rate.    25W 5 Ohm  Cheers! :winner: |
hein gericke now doing them for about £11.99, along with a whole new range oF LED indicators
