fitting R&G's to my "S"

do i need to support my engine when replacing the engine bolt?

i'm pretty ignorant when it comes to things mechanical, the destructions which came with the bars didnt say i needed to to but i swear i saw somebody mention it the other day.

No. Undo bolt slide out, slide new bar in (Put one nut on the end 1st, then slide through cup) put on other cup, tighten up nut to 65nm, then add black nylon bungs to tatse :D

Do you have lowers? You'll have to cut into them if you do, sadly.

keithd 04-03-05 08:57 AM

aaahh...the old feeling of a bolt just as she shears! not many things more anoying in the world

i'm ALWAYS tempted to think "it'll be ok as long as i dont move it again!"

Keith - not sure where in Soton you are, however I have an Abba stand & a torque wrench if that helps.

Yep that was yours truly. The instructions for the Hornet ones say to support the engine with a trolley jack before you remove the bolt. I think R&G are covering themselves in case the engine moves when you take the bolt out. The motor didn't shift at all when John did mine. In any case the pipes go under the engine so there's nowhere to put a trolley jack anyway. A week later the engine still hasn't fallen out so I think it's there for keeps
