Rear Sprocket
I have a Naked sv650 K4. I put the bike on a pit stand the other day and notice there was a very slight wobble in the rear sprocket when the rear wheel was spun. It was only slight but how true should the sprocket spin? Is this normal?
Regards Neil |
It should be perfect, I'd have it looked at.

Ideally there should be zero runout, but a little is quite normal. I suspect most of it comes from the way the sprocket/cush-drive assembly is built up and mounted.
Mine has a little, but less than the side clearance between chain and sprocket (maybe 0.5mm ???). The Service Manual gives a runout tolerance for the disc (0.3mm) but not the sprocket that I can see. I'd suggest it should be in a similar ballpark. |
It is only a slight wobble but as the bike is under manufactures warranty do you think I should take it back?
Neil |
yes take it back fella, as above there should be zero play/ very little in the sprocket. however it may not be covered in the warranty
|
Right. I have just spoken to Sturdy's and he said he needs to have a look at it so I'm going to take it down there on Saturday Morning.
Fingers crossed that if anything is wrong it's covered by the warranty. Neil |

well it maybe covered it depends on, if the sprocket is standard & also have you have changed the tyres :?: if the answer is no to both then its not your fault & its a warranty job. |
Bikes 5 weeks (2000 miles) old with no tyre/sprocket changes so hopefully it should be covered.
When claiming on the warranty, is there any excess to pay? Does the warranty cover parts and labour? |

warranty covers cost's labour etc no excess fella, but it does not cver all parts |
for the first year everything should be covered except things like tyres (because they could only last you 2 mins if you did a massive burnout in the carpark and blew them up thats your fault) but parts that should'nt need replacing for a couple of years or 8-10k miles should be replaced definatly if it's due to assembly or manufacturing fault.
BTW have you had you 4k service done, because if you have'nt they can use this to get out of doing the work for free. |
