My current drive was a complete nightmare to get set up. In the end, turns out it came with a very old firmware that would one work with certain disks.

Try your manufacturers website for that.

What software are you using and how you using it?

im using cheetah and all im doing is selecting the file i want to burn to make a video dvd and then clicking burn, works fine on my computer but refuses to do anything on my dvd player

Are you sure your DVD player will play DVD+R or DVD-R (or RW)?

Also, its quite common, more so with cheaper makes, for certain disks not to work.

try using Nero

have you examined the file structure on the DVD that you have written

you should have a folder called VIDEO_TS, and a selection of files in it that end in extensions such as .vob

if not, you've probably just written a .mpg file onto the DVD which a standard DVD won't touch

I think the word "most" should be inserted there. There are players that play mpgs. Even DivX too.

i solved my burning problem by replacing my writer, my old one just wasnt burning correctly and i was getting that many coasters i didnt know if it was the disks the programmes or the burner its self  no probs now tho and it only cost £30 from svp communications (pioneer 111).

Quite true. I replaced my DVD player a few months ago when I came back from holiday to discover it couldn't play/display .jpg files. Got a multi-region Sony something or other that plays absolutely everything - .jpgs run as a slideshow, and if you put a .mp3 track in the same folder it plays that as background music, and all for less than £100 :D

hmmm strange ive tryed it on three dvd players with no joy, and have done as said with the TS folder its a brand new computer so should be working fine never had a problem burning music, i shall look in to it further and try not to use up all my dvds in the process ta
