Engine Burning Smell
Mornin all,
after my normal morning commute I pulled up to be greeted with a potent smell of burning, as if the engine had no water in it???? now I can see the radiator cap on the right, but I have lowers and its a nightmare to get to, is there a overflow reservoir anywhere or an easy way to check my water levels as cant be taking lowers off without tools. alternatively, maybe its something other than water? all suggestions greatfully received. thankyou muchly in advance! |
Were you riding in rain/ had it been raining?
If so water collects in the radiator as you ride, heats up and gives off that smell - nothing to worry about! It will also dribble out when you put your bike on it's side stand. You can check the coolant, by looking at the reservoir on the left hand side of the bike between the frame. |
no rain here, lovely sunshine all the way!

Maybe it has something to do with your bike being on fire.
Sorry, I'm in one of those moods. Um... something constructive... have you checked there's not something stuck to the exhaust? :? |

Lunchtime update!!!!!!
examined the coolant and its just above L so yes its low, but not empty then as I turned the steering to get a better view of the underside the horn swang into view, YEP just hanging by the connecting cable!! so now I am wondering if the horn had somehow been lodged somewhere causing heat to transfer to somewhere it shouldnt causing the smell? also I am obviously a little concerned how the horn has come to be just hanging? any quick suggestions as to where I need to look as to where the horn should be fixed? I cant see anywhere obvious? cheers |
