Can't undo Wheel nuts
Tried to undo the rear wheel bolts, but the chain guide just spun.
http://upload5.postimage.org/148402/DSC00001.jpg Will take it to a dealer's to hopefully help. Happened to anyone else? |
Pretty sure that this has happened to a few others, did you have a socket on the other end of the spindle (bolt head) this would stop that happening.
|
looks like the spindle was just spinning?
Did you have a socket or spanner on the other side? dang it was beaten to it again |
those chain guides are a mennis, they never line up like u think they shud and urs has well, gone for the 360.. what u need is a bucket of wd40, a torque wrench and a scaffold pole for extra leverage  good luck wi gettin it sorted,,sorry wunt much help!!!

mine did this when tightening up and put a loverly groove in my swing arm :? as others have said a socket on the other side sorts this.

try a spanner on each side of the spindle. the adjuster guides are ****e and might as well be made of tin foil. i've scratched my swingarm trying to undo the poxy nut. i normally wedge a srewdriver under the swingarm, against the guide to stop it spinning. bloody difficult with only two hands though! :D |
Thanks, all
You can see the circular scratch I now have at the very end of the swing arm  yes a socket each side would work, but not easy with one person putting all my effort into getting it to move and the right side nut is so narrow the spanner just wants to slip off now. Dealers here I come. |
You can sort of balance a breaker bar on the nut in such a way that it won't come off... Hard to explain, it's all just about bracing it right.
|
I was going to brace a spanner against the swing arm crash bung, but as the spanner was starting to slip on the right side I gave up.
Is the OE tool kit crap or something? I thought you couldn't beat a six sided closed end spanner :? |
same thing happened to me when I first tried undoing the nut. Ended up having bike on Abba stand socket and torque wrench on nut side and bolt head side, then turned the bolt rather than the nut just a turn or two to free it up. Came off ok after that. Put plenty of copper slip on the nut face before re-assembling. No copper slip on the threads though it will bugger up the torque settings :D
