Wheel spacer dilemma.... (and now front wheel dilemma!)

I'm putting new bearings in my wheels just now. The rear has gone in as planned.

Can someone explain why my front wheel spacer between the bearings is shorter than the gap between the bearings? It's 22.5x73mm

I've not done the job yet but the distance between the bearing seats is more than 73mm, the length of the spacer. Why? :smt017

Sounds a silly question but are you sure you have measured it correctly. The spacer you have is the correct size and the distance between the bearings(where they sit in wheel) should be about 73mm give ot take a few wotsit. I'll say check again. ;)

Thanks Ben.

Measured the wheel now, it's more like 88mm in there. It's a 3.5x17" wheel. The faces where the brake discs bolt on to are 122mm apart. Could someone check, is that about right?

I'm having a scary thought now. The wheel was bought off ebay ages ago, supposedly a '99 SV650, wheel.........and i've just laid out cash to get it powdercoated!!!!!

B*gger mate, looks like you haven't got an SV wheel there. The SV wheel disc mounting surface distance should be about 92mm .

Ok, it's a bugger certainly - but possibly not the end of the world.

I'm now thinking it's a maybe pointy wheel, as their brake discs have flat centres ( curvies are dished), so the mounting surface must be wider apart.

I have the right bearings, a change of inner spacer could see me right. I dont have discs for it yet, so could just get pointy ones, yeah? Is the pointy caliper totally the same as a curvy one?

Any pointy owners got a bare wheel lying around, so we could compare measurements?

The same happend to me last year I bought what I thought was a SV650 front Wheel and it turned out to be a Bandit 1200 so I started a dispute with the seller and got a full refund! By the way the codes stamped on the two wheels are the same!
