Re: whats wrong with the forks?
Something like that :)
The forks are basic, basically... The springs are too soft for a lot of fat british people, and the design means that the damping's quite crude. Also, the rebound and compression damping are both controlled by the oil viscosity which means you can't adjust one without impacting the other. They're a bit light on compression damping for most folk as well, which is why we often change the oil. Better suspension has cartidges- basically valves- which offer finer control and also seperate control of different sorts of damping, so you can add compression damping without also adding rebound. This is good. Nothing actually wrong with them at all, though- just that they're the weakest part of the SV, with a lot of bikes you can't upgrade one bit without showing up something else- Bandit 6 for instance, has roughly the same forks as the SV but if you massively upgrade them the chassis becomes an issue, and the weight. With the SV, upgrading the suspension really pays off- don't let anyone tell you it's needed though, unless you weigh 15 stone :) |
