Knocking sound from crankcase. SK3
Got a SV650S K3 with 13900miles on it.
Over the last few weeks I've started to hear a dull knocking sound from the crankcase. Didn't think too much of it initially but now everytime I'm on it, it's all I can hear. Apparently when the K3 was made Suzuki got the tolerances wrong on the crank & a few have suffered bearing failure & a huge repair bill!!!!!! Needless to say it's now booked into Cupar for 15k service & to sort the problem. Anyone else had this??? Coincidently it's also in this months 'BIKE' magazine! |

Re: Knocking sound from crankcase. SK3
The Knock was a problem with a lot of the SVthou's. K3 in particular I think. They were all fixed under warranty.
If this is the same problem, ( I wasnt aware of this happening with the 650s!) check out www.suzukisv1000.com or www.sv-portal.com as there is masses of information about it!!! |
Re: Knocking sound from crankcase. SK3
suzuki didnt fix it just like that, the sv-portal site hammer'd them with letters till they finaly admited that a batch of fauty bearing was put into some engines, the 650 wasnt affected by this and the 1000 engine life was not affected either just a slight bottom end knock. these engines knocked from new so i doubt this is quikhstu's problem.

I think I recall some of the minitwin racers saying the early pointys were prone to crankshaft failures.
Maybe SVRacer can give you the lowdown on this. |
