Replacement rear axles?

Well- there's a handy thing. Went to adjust the chain yesterday and, from a combination of cheap socket set and maybe tyre fitters over tightening the rear wheel (though he did use a torque-wrench), the nut on the axle is starting to round on the exhaust side. currently I can't adjust the chain until I get my bro's better (+ bigger) sockets and undo the other nut.

So- are these available in a slightly harder metal than the OE? stainless steel would be preferable..

Cheers as ever, guys..

The metal's fne, don't use cheap sockets;)

Probolt probably do them.

Probolt only do the axle nut, not the axle itself.

I find that doing and undoing the axle, only the nut needs to be held by a socket. The axle goes tight very quickly and can be held by hand. Same with undoing. Only use a socket on the much bigger nut. That works for me anyway. Otherwise it's ebay etc for a secondhand one.

The only place that you'll get a replacement spindle is Suzuki. If it were me I'd see if I could grind/file the hex down to the next suitable size - it's only for holding the spindle while you turn the nut.

Never use stainless for a stressed component like a wheel spindle - or be daft enough to replace suspension and brake mounting bolts with stainless 'cos it's shiny, like some people do.

Cheers folks- looks like it was well overtight from the tyres being replaced- got the chain sorted, can undo it using the big nut for now. Sorted.
