Not strictly sv650 but it for the gixer front end on my sv!
I'm having trouble removing the front wheel on the gixer front end. I've undone the bolts at the bottom of the forks and I can turn the spindle, however, the spindle is not coming out, it just spins. What am I doing wrong, can someone help me??? It's the k5 gixer 600 special edition front end. I know it's probably something easy but it's begining to infuriate me! |

Hmm, don't know that particular model but in most GSXRs the spindle doesn't thread into the fork, there's a threaded insert instead. So if you unscrew all the pinch bolts, and turn the bolt, the threaded insert turns too and the spindle goes nowhere- with that setup you need to loosen the bolt end but leave the spacer end tight. Is it like that do you think?

Phil, the pinch bolts on the end of the spindle with a flange on it should be tight. You then unscrew the spindle from the other end.
Didn't you have to do that when you were putting the forks on? |

Yeh the pinch bolts on the rhs (facing the bike) Need to be tight and then undo the other side and it should slide out. Don't forget to remove your calipers though as the wheel doesn't come out with them in place. hth Rich

Tis all done now, had to take the wheels off to get new tyres (Pilot Power 2CT's!). Yes, I had to buy a spindle removal tool as I couldn't locate a 24mm Allen Key!
I now have 2 black wheels on the bike instead of a black front and a silver rear as I fritted the wheel that I've had in my garage for 9 months!! |
