Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself. Just purchased an 07 SV650S. It is brand new with 0 miles on it and got a great deal. A little nervous, the bike will be staying in the living room until I take my course on Aug 2-3. Planning on getting my permit this week and getting insurance after I'm done with the MSF course. I'm looking for feedback on MUST DO things or any mods you recommend. I'm thinking of eliminating the rear fender and integrating the rear turn signals first. here are the pics |

Congratulations! Welcome aboard.
I've got to say that I am loving that picture of bike sitting in the living room. I'm thinking that Mrs. Uup would not be best pleased if she came home and found me and the SV sitting watching TV together... Nice touch to have newspaper down to stop fluff from the carpet getting on your nice new tyres ![]() Cheers Ey |

Hello, and welcome to a world of infinite ways to spend money on your bike
![]() All the best people keep their bikes in the house, you know. Our two fit nicely in what used to be the dining room ![]()

Fit crash bungs, do it before you even ride it. If you drop the bike, then you might just get away with it.
When you get your permit (you from US then?) ride to your local dealer and get a new, louder exhaust. Then hack it in half and fit it, replacing the huge OEM silencer. Happy ridings! Matt |

I had my crash bungs ready to fit, left them in the garage for a month or so. Finally get around to fitting them, only to find I needed a socket I didn't have. No problem, I think. I'll just ride off to Halfords during lunch hour and get it. One very cautious 5 minute ride down the road, I have the bit I need and I start to ride home. On the way home to fit the bungs, a car driver has me off. There was nothing I could of done to prevent it (it was a toss up between going over the bonnet, into a 2 foot high kerb with a sign sticking out of it and trying for an unrealistic lean angle on gravel). In spite of only being doing 15mph at the time, it resulted in £1600 worth of damage (admittedly I got the cash on the insurance, but trust me, you don't want the hassle). A few years later I crashed at 60mph (only this time I had crash bungs fitted), the damage was much less, around £500. They will save you a hell of a lot of money in the long term. I hope my cautionary tale encourages you to get them fitted ASAP! Welcome aboard, btw! ![]() |

Welcome to the site, and to the SV.
I wouldn't bother with the intergrated turn signal mod as it is a waste of money and dangerous as it is not always visible, plus it is an 'official' MOT failure and any for safety sakes any MOT failure! First thing to do, get a hugger to help protect the back end and yourself from corrosion. Then you will need a fender extender from Pyramid Plastics, this will stop the crap from the front wheel getting to your front spark plug (especially in the wet) and turning your V-twin into a single cylinder. ![]() A loud can is never a bad idea, not essential but is nice to hear how a V-twin engine should sound! The top budget ones to go for are CCC or Fuel, both are excellent value and great build quality. |

Ignore Dangerous Dave above. He does not realise our MOT requirements do not apply in the colonies. I doubt his recommendations as to CCC or Fuel cans will apply do to overseas shipping costs etc. Although a loud exhaust system is an essential safety feature. When they say "Sorry mate I did not see you", at least you can reply are you f*cking deaf as well as blind then!
Fender extender is a requirement if you are not living in the sunnier parts as rain is known to cause problems.

Fender extender + crash bungs.
Get some crash bungs from motosliders, they'll be a good price for you being a septic as the shipping will be cheaper. The fender extender is to stop the wash from the front wheel "jet washing" the front spark plug and HT lead and shorting it out. This is common on SV's of all years. I'd say get a can after you sort the fender and crash bungs ("frame sliders"), and leave the bling stuff alone, you tart. ![]() |
