Default How do i stop my cat from hunting?

Ive just walked in the door to find a pigeon torn to shreds all round the hallway and stairs, AGAIN!! Thats to be added to the Toad, Robin and Shrew ive also had in recent days!
I have 2 cats, sisters, 18 months old, but its only the smallest of the two thats bringing me these lovely gifts. It wouldn't be so bad if she just brought them in and left them, she insists on making the scene of the crime as bl00dy as she can. Yuk!
Does anyone have any ideas how i can deter her, she has a bell around her neck, but thats obviously not making a difference. The reason i got her was because she is so affectionate and playful towards the children, but its very upsetting for the kids to keep finding her 'presents'.

I know theres lots of cat owners on here so any suggestions gratefully received, thankyou (except for getting rid of the cat, thats NOT an option).

Dont have a cat flap
My male cat does the same, hence the reason for no cat flap in my house.

I wonder if someone will be along soon with comments like kill the cat, or nail it to the tree or some other cruel ****.

Had five cats and only one of them was a massive hunter and after trying everything including only letting her out at certain times of the day we had no option other than making her a house cat. Its impossible to stop their natural behaviour tbh. one of them brought home an entire birds nest once including occupants!

You can't until they have killed everything they want to.
Give them another year and it will slow down. My two ten yr old cats don't tend to bring much in these days, they can't be ar$ed.

However Mr Tibbs is a yr old and is an evil little so and so. During the summer he found a nest of rats and there was carnage strewn across three gardens for a month! I think Kaspar had first showed him the place as he tried bringing one in first through the kitchen window....ewwwww! Then Tibbs cleaned the lot up. We'd catch him chucking them about everywhere, in our garden and both neighbours gardens. One side weren't very pleased, they got the headless, degutted ones At one point he was killing two or three a day!

They think they are feeding you, or giving you appreciation....not that you appreciate it. As for a bell, it don't work, all of mine have them. Cats might be affectionate in the home, like all mine are, Tibbs is an absolute perfect family cat, but they are all killers outside, its instinct.

i take it she brings them in via a cat flap? if this is the case then lock it and when you let her in you can see if she has pressies about her person!!

Mine grew out of it as she got older, couldn't be bothered and only bought the occaisional mouse or baby rabbit home when she was young

Don't make a difference if you don;t have a cat flap, they just leave it at your door instead, or sneak it in, when you open it....as mine do!

Yeah, ive spent many a nice relaxing saturday night answering the front door to have a cat run in with a live mouse in its gob, only to spit it out infront of me then walk off leaving me to play hunt the mouse for days after...
