Default Nekkid rambler Steven Gough

And before you ask, no I'm not about to try it in light of my recent airborne biker thread

Did we all hear about this fella? I couldn't find any threads on him in the search function.

I cannot help but admire him for his persistence and focus, how he has ended up sacrificing everything for what is so important to him.

I know it's an article from the guardian, sorry.

Feel free to discuss, but if you're going to poke fun then think long and hard about how to back up your opinions

And it was the story about Prince Harry's recent nekkid antics that reminded me of this bloke.

interesting article. I dont necessarily admire him for what he is doing. He is obviously persistent in getting his point across but it does appear somewhat futile. I think the reaction to his actions is down to what might be considered publicly acceptable.

Many people would feel uncomfortable about a person walking naked in public, in particular when its a man. The article makes it sound trivial and daft that a person is being imprisoned for 'not getting dressed', I think its more than that. He is being imprisoned for repeatedly ignoring the previous judgements, his punishments seem to be more about ignoring authority now than nakedness.

But, if its acceptable for a grown man to be naked rambling in public in the UK today, is it ok for person to go naked in a bar, or a school, or the workplace?

His actions might be perfectly acceptable in his mind, but the general public acceptance doesn't match up with that in today's culture.

I did find the quote "On his second he was arrested in St Ives, held briefly, then released." quite amusing though.

exactly, it comes down to what that place or community deems acceptable. I was watching the Inbetweeners episodes last night, I couldnt go naked for fear of getting a 'boner' everywhere I went

Sad that we cant deal with people who are very different but who do no harm to anyone.

Although I can see why people are offended, it's only because we're a prudish nation unfamiliar with the sight of nudity. I would rather see a physically fit person with no clothes on than a disgustingly obese person who persists in wearing clothes too small and subjecting everyone to probably the same amount of flesh that Steven does! People are envious of others with enough courage to do something they wouldn't dare. Not being a parent I'm not sure I'd react if I saw him walking down the street. But how is it any different from allowing your children to run about free of their inhibitions on the beach? Who is watching then? It's the same crap that surrounds breastfeeding in public.

Nudity in the workplace, can you imagine the Health and Safety forms!?

Precisely. The paedophiles and rapists of this country all walk about fully clothed, it is them we should be concerned about. One man who does no harm but repeatedly "offends" people gets more attention and spends more time behind bars than those who repeatedly actively offend people. The old "if one person does it everyone will" message doesn't work in this situation, people are hardly likely to start stripping off at every opportunity when going shopping.

Ironic that he repeatedly has the issues in Scotland where the men can freely wander about in kilts with nothing on underneath

That just made me spit my apple out lol, that would be my worry, soon as a nice pair of norks were on show, that would be it

On a serious note, it's always bothered me about people being topless in public, perfectly acceptable for a man, but not a woman, why? That's sex discrimination IMO.

I think I would rather be a naked desk worker than say a naked welder
