Default Painted SV parts

Some of the parts on my sv which i painted myself with car paints from Halfwits, bar ends, side pannels, rear tail bridge pannel.

Well they seem to have not coped well with the heat of Spain & Portugal.

I dont know why, the bar ends seem to have cracked paint & the rear tail peice has melted paint under the rear seat plus when i had something resting on it, the paint melted arround it?

Problem with the paints? All the pro painted stuff is fine

how did you paint them? rememebr that the pro painted stuff has that gloss on it that protects it as well, they also apply about 3 or 4 layers of paint on it and then like 2 of gloss. try again and if you fail this time, get it done at a sprayers

trick

it was primed with plastic primer (i think, cant remember if i used the correct can), then 2-3 layers of red paint then 3-4 layers of laquer.

when ive painted stuff i usually give 5-8 very thin layers of paint, and 5-8 very thinner layers of laquer.

It could well be that you didn't let the paint dry fully before you applied the next coat, or that you applied a laquer coat before the top coat of paint dried. This can often lead to the top layer cracking, and is very easy to do if you're not spraying in a booth.

Also though, chances are the pros used 2-pack paint while you've used Halford's cellulose, so they'd have very different behaviour. Car cellulose shouldn't react like that to heat though.

couple of reasons why:
1-didnt let it dry long enough
2-used the wrong primer
3-CALLED US HALFWITS!!!! i work there and all of us aint that bad!! some part timers are halfwits, but whenever ive done spray jobs, they've always been fine.

Out of curiosity Rik, do you know why the branches with paint mixing services sell the paint by the tin for spray gun delivery, but not the clear coat or primers? Is that not just obviously ridiculous, or am I missing some subtle point?
