My brother has just bought a 2000 R6 and has his DAS booked for 14th to 17th (test on 17th) August. He wants to go out to scarborough/skegness/cleethorpes/anywhere on the friday if he passes.
Now...the problem with this is the bikes untaxed. He isn't yet insured as he only has a provisional licence till after test date (hopefully). If he does pass then he will insure the bike that aternoon but then won't have the cover note to get the bike taxed until possibly the monday after meaning no rideout for him on the friday. so in a roundabout way my question is, would he be able to insure the bike on a provisional licence so that it can be taxed ( obviously not ridden though) and then inform insurance that he has passed on the 17th. Or is there any other way of getting it taxed ? other than insuring it for me for 1 month (i have a full but restricted licence so we'd have to restrict it) so that i could tax it. Cheers Luke |

i cant see why he cant arrange the insurance to start on the friday after the time of his test, if hes honest with them they are usually pretty good, after all, if they arnt insuring him till after his test they shouldnt really worry...
wish him best of luck!! |

![]() I have faith that he'll pass first time as i did, he's very competent but could get a touch over confident come test day. Although he'll have a faster bike than me if he does ![]() |

I'm not sure but will the post office accept a faxed copy of a cover note? They may not but if they do and you have access to a fax you may be able to speed things up that way.

It shouldn't be a problem to insure it with no license- some places won't do it, but I had no real problems finding somewhere that would do it. Bennetts, I think. It's not uncommon for a new biker to buy a bike before they have a license, and to want it insured in case it's nicked.

your best bet, is to get the insurance company to email you a cover letter, then print it using a high quality printer, im not sure its legal, but technically your not breaking the law are you, as you ARE insured ? (just waiting for the cover note to arrive in the post) |
