Default Tyres

I need new tyres, so I had a search on the forum and made a few calls.
Obviously I want Metzler Roadtec Z6 or Pirelli Diablo Strada from what's been recommended on here. I knew I could get them on the internet for £150, but that would leave me the problem of getting them fitted.
So I called Fleet - after 5 mins on hold "£148" - "For both? " "No, for the rear " put on hold again to wait for the other 3 prices - loose the will to live and hang up.
Called Guildford Tyre - £217.77 ride in ride out or £59 to fit tyres off the internet £47 if they're loose - Can't get my head around how I could use a ride in ride out service bringing my own tyres so I called Dan's mate Gary. £223 for a callout service or £195 for Avon's
Considered searching for Anna's comments on Avons and thinking the extra is probably worth not having the time & hassle of going to Guildford. So I thought I would make one last call to Steve Jordan's.
Strada's £210 recommended over Z6's £207.50 plus £5 for Nitrogen
So I'm booked in for Saturday - Just got to decide on 70's for the front? Recommended for high speed straight line stability. Anyone want to comment?

I did call back Fleet to give them a chance. Put on hold - comments in the background "it took me 2 days to work out those prices, now I can't find them" - "That 'll be £278 for Z6's " £230 for Strada's.

What did you do in your lunch hour?

Had lunch!!

The Strada and the Z6 are the same tyre.

However, £210 isnt a bad price. I paid £190 for mine ride in/out.

Tyres It maybe worth giving Wraysbury Tyres a call in Chertsey to check their prices. http://www.wraysburytyres.co.uk/

After the IAM on Sunday I decided to take the scenic route home and got around back to Goldaming to end the day with a puncture trying to cross some of the rivers. Got recovered home around 6pm

Today I stick some foam in it to get me to the tyre shop - I got to the Ferrari roundabout in Egham - not even a mile. Got recovered to the Tyre shop in Chertsey

The Dunlop Qualifier didnt give me confidence so I was happy to chop it in. I put on Diablo Corsa's for £230. I have traded miles for sticky though (weekend rider).

I thought Id have to pay for the 2nd recovery but insurance was happy to do it as part of my package

Got mine from Ride-in bike tyres in Reading. (www.rideinbiketyres.co.uk)

Really nice bloke and matched the price for Micheldever tyres (usually cheapest round these parts, but quite a trek). One man band so you’ll have to make an appointment, but he really cares about bikes so better than a kwik-fit monkey.

I got a pair of Z6s and am well pleased with them.

Was early Summer. Will have to dig through credit card statements to get the price, but was not expensive. People like roadwheel could not get close to it. Basically Micheldever tyres generally have the best proces and ride-in matched their price.

End of the day I'd also rather pay a few extra quid to get someone to do the job right.

If I can find the price I'll send it to you.

Mark, no need to look out the invoice. Called Micheldever - £183 / £186 for Z6 / Stradas.
So you're right on the cheapest place in town.
Like the Avatar btw.

Ride-in then match their price within a fiver or so. That included balancing, VAT, chat etc.

I got nothing but attitude from Roadwheel in fleet on three occasions (Tyres, can, suspension). If they treat a sales opportunity like that I dread to think how they deal with an aftersales issue. Also Lynchford (who I always use for car tyres) say they do loads of bikes. However I have never seen old bike tyres outside and do not fancy having to learn enough Latvian to explain how to get the speedo drive back in in one piece.

The guy at Ride-in is a genuine biker lives and breathes for them and despite being a fussy customer I was very pleased with him.
