![]() So my mate, MacGuffin, finally got round to removing the baffle from his Curvey SV. He'd been riding round forever with the baffle in & was quite chuffed with the popping sound when slowing down & changing gear. |

my pipe has no baffles
wehn i shut shut the throttle or throttle off in third it pops and crackles but i thought thast just the overrun? being louder etc due to no baffles. its does it in the higher gears too but not a loud as in third. leave em out! it sounds goooood... |

Properly tuned it shouldn't make any popping it's just running a tad lean if I'm correct. With the baffle in it doesn't pop because it's nearer to being tuned properly mostly not because it's baffled although the baffle will silence some of it.

Its running lean and/or has a slight leak which sucks in air when changing down. Both of these things can lead to valve damage, best to get it checked out properly!

I believe the popping is due to the p.a.i.r system injecting air into the exhaust to clean the emissions up, as the standard can is so huge you don't hear it.
Someone more knowledgable will be along soon enough to confirm/ blow out of the water my answer. |
