The last 20 minutes have been spent with a tape measure in hand sizing up the swingarm and undertray of my K5S. The reason for this is I have a lovely Ermax hugger here that came off a K3S (wich incidentally fitted a K3 naked with no modifications needed). I want to fit this to my K5S, but it's different to the one specified by Ermax as being right for the job. From what I can see the reason they have different huggers for K3 only and K4 onwards is because of the stupid ugly hanging toolbox on the later ones - the toolbox that on mine has no lid and would never get used anyway. The swingarm appears to have exactly the same dimensions as the K3 naked that's sitting next to it in my garage, so , theoretically at least, the hugger should bolt up to the swingarm ok.
Tomorrow's plan is to pull the battery out, remove the rear plastics and lower subframe mounts, then swing the subframe up on its upper mounts (just like I used to on my old XR400R). Once it's up in the air I'll be very carefully and neatly chopping the toolbox off the rear undertray under the battery box to give my hugger the clearance it needs to fit properly.
I'll take photos, just because I can.
If I screw it all up and my plan fails, rear undertrays are easily and cheaply available from Minitwins and Thunderbike racers who've used custom subframes <Looks and smiles sweetly at the lovely Mrs SV650Racer Jordan>
