Default Sun bathing - why lube up?

Now I am sat out here in the sun as I type this , I only intend to be out here for say 30 mins in total as I'll get bored ...

Its nice to be enjoying the sun, but it strikes me as odd that people slap on factor 50 (or whatever) then sit in the sun all day sunbathing ...

Now presuming it is to get a nice tan, why not just stay out in the sun 1/50th of the time un-protected and then do something else with the rest of the day?

Surely a few mins exposure un protected has to be better for you than hours protected???

Obviously if you are say out walking in the sun for a day, you need to lube up, so I am only talking about people specifically laying about simply sun bating.

I've just slapped on a load of factor 30 as I'm about to go for a longish walk. I have to put a fair bit on as I frazzle after a short period. I would much rather go a bit pink from a walk than having been sat on the beach all day, at least I'm getting exercise at the same time!

A lot of people are lucky and don't have to worry about burning after a little while but us fair-skinned have to take all the necessary precautions or suffer the consequences! It's a pain, but at least I can go out now knowing I'm going to be able to move tomorrow, pain-free!

It's sooooooooooo hot out there atm, can't be doing with this sitting indoors!

EDIT: just reread your post Blue, didn't see the last sentence lol!

Not a cloud in the sky here, how odd. well not really I suppose, the UK is damn temperamental weatherwise! Beach is packed, yuk.

Wow you turned that one round quick.

Scoobs Bewbs are nothing to shout about... but mine...

I never bother, but then I have my own natural sun block so I'm aways in the shade.

Well, we have had a few ideas between us the past few days and nothing has come of them ... like your charity wax ... the bike wash ... we need to think of something people will 'buy into' ... obviosuly seeing you in pain and the prospect of ladies lathers up doens't do it for the .org ... so any more ideas??
